Description Long time whitout post a mythological creature, so let´s go back to the times of ancient Egypt to know more about Ammit, the souleater:

LET´S WIKIATTACK!

Ammit (/ˈæmɪt/; "devourer" or "soul-eater"; also called Ammut or Ahemait) was a female goddess in ancient Egyptian religion with a body that was part lion, hippopotamus and crocodile—the three largest "man-eating" animals known to ancient Egyptians. A funerary deity, her titles included "Devourer of the Dead", "Eater of Hearts", and "Great of Death". Ammit lived near the scales of justice in Duat, the Egyptian underworld. In the Hall of Two Truths, Anubis weighed the heart of a person against the feather of Ma'at, the goddess of truth, which was depicted as an ostrich feather (the feather was often pictured in Ma'at's headdress). If the heart was judged to be not pure, Ammit would devour it, and the person undergoing judgement was not allowed to continue their voyage towards Osiris and immortality. Once Ammit swallowed the heart, the soul was believed to become restless forever; this was called "to die a second time". Ammit was also sometimes said to stand by a lake of fire. In some traditions, the unworthy hearts were cast into the fiery lake to be destroyed. Some scholars believe Ammit and the lake represent the same concept of destruction.  Ammit was not worshipped; instead she embodied all that the Egyptians feared, threatening to bind them to eternal restlessness if they did not follow the principle of Ma'at.  Ammit has been linked by some with the goddess Tawaret, who has a similar physical appearance and, as a companion of Bes, also protected others from evil. Other authors have noted that Ammit's lion characteristics, and the lake of fire, may be pointers to a connection with the goddess Sekhmet. The relation to afterlife punishment and lake of fire location are also shared with the baboon deity Babi.

Doesn't "goddess" already imply female?

Mythological master piece, as usual
A tad more human than I'm used to (as human as a lionish hippopotamus crocodile can be), but still great.

Still think you're the absolute master of depicting mythological creatures in the most badass of ways and this one is super awesome too, except -and maybe it's just me- those feet look almost adorably wonky to me that's I can't help but laugh. I have no idea how else you're supposed to depict them, seeing as hippo legs on a bipedal creature seems like an anthro artist's nightmare, but there you go.

APS4745 In reply to StrikerHawks [2017-11-28 22:49:40 +0000 UTC]

No he was not. Sobek was the god of the Nile, crocodiles, and military.

Ammit was the devourer goddess, and she ate the hearts of deceased people that were deemed unworthy of afterlife, leaving their souls to wonder in limbo.

It's really weird to see an interpretation of the Devourer as an anthropomorphic creature rather than an animal. xD

A woman implies this is supposed to be human.

She absolutely is not! Ammit would just look silly with breasts and hartman hips. She is supposed to be a giant horrifying beast, not a pretty lady.

Backjack-Kitsune In reply to APS4745 [2019-07-19 21:35:23 +0000 UTC]

which in the right light a pretty lady can also be a giant horrifying beast

Just like the Japanese do with monster girls!

DO IT!

There's a difference between being a "FEMALE" and being a "WOMAN".

The Internet loves to blur the lines sometimes.

Concepts-by-Kae In reply to CaptainCross [2017-11-14 20:30:06 +0000 UTC]

No, it's explained in the description.

This is an ancient Egyptian deity which was depicted with these specific body parts and perceived as female.

They've based it on Egyptian lore.

TheWolfJarl [2017-11-14 20:07:40 +0000 UTC]

Interesting that Sobek had no relation to Ammit, given how Sobek was a crocodile-headed war deity.
