Description the goddess of good waters... wanna go to the beach again

LETS WIKIATTACK!

Oshun, or Ochun (pronounced [ɔʃún]) in the Yoruba religion, is an Undergoddess who reigns over love, intimacy, beauty, wealth and diplomacy. She is worshipped also in Brazilian Candomblé Ketu, with the name spelled Oxum. She should not be confused, however, with a different Orisha of a similar name spelled "Osun," who is the protector of the Ori, or our heads and inner souls.

Ọṣhun is beneficent, generous and very kind. She does, however, have a horrific temper, one which she seldom ever loses but which causes untold destruction whenever she does.

According to the Yoruba elders, Oshun is the "unseen mother present at every gathering", because Oshun is the Yoruba understanding of the cosmological forces of water, moisture, and attraction. Therefore, she is believed to be omnipresent and omnipotent. Her power is represented in another Yoruba proverb which reminds us that "no one is an enemy to water" and therefore everyone has need of and should respect and revere Oshun, as well as her followers.

Oshun is the force of harmony. Harmony which we see as beauty, feel as love, and experience as ecstasy. She, according to the ancients, was the only female Irunmole amongst the original 16 sent from the spirit realm to create the world. As such, she is revered as "Yeye" - the great mother of us all. When the male Irunmole attempted to subjegate Oshun due to her femaleness, she removed her divine energy (called ase by the Yoruba) from the project of creating the world and all subsequent efforts at creation were in vain. It was not until visiting with the Supreme Being, Olodumare, and begging for Osun's pardon (as advised by Olodumare) that the world could continue to be created. But not before Osun had given birth to a son. This son became Elegba, the great conduit of ase in the Universe, the eternal and infernal trickster.

Oshun is known as Iyalode, the "(explicitly female) chief of the market." [2] She is also known as Laketi, she who has ears, because of how quickly and effectively she answers prayers. When she possesses her followers, she dances, flirts and then weeps- because no one can love her enough and the world is not as beautiful as she knows it could be.

Congratulations, this is 100% wrong. She looks Pacific Islander, not West Africa. Do you have a problem with drawing dark skin? Because nobody from Nigeria, Togo or Benin (the present-day countries that form Yorubaland, where Oshun is from, being, you know, a YORUBA goddess) looks like this.

Race aside, this is 100% wrong in her depiction and characterization. Oshun is very lovely and very sensual. She's the goddess of love and fecundity after all. She is very beautiful and voluptous, being also the goddess of beauty. Here she looks warrior-like, which is completely off.

Then again, generally speaking, your art style is one-trick pony action-pose type of thing; it seems you don't pay any attention to the character traits of the spirits, gods, deities, and other mythological beings or figures that you draw. Your art certainly suggests that this is the case.

Finally, it is also wrong because there's no yellow. That's Oshun's colour, yellow and gold. She usually wears yellow garments, and a yellow headscarf. She often wears gold jewelry, or bronze (another metal associated with her). Oshun is quite lively, and she's fierce, but not in the way she appears here.

Most probably you will ignore this, but what I can do. I like most of your art, but here you really blew it. This isn't Oshun, this is some travesty you drew up that looks like it came out Polynesia or something, lol. Representation matters and artistic license is in no way an excuse. Oshun is a Yoruba goddess and therefore looks West African, period. There aren't any Yoruba people that look like Pacific Islanders.

1/10

I agree, considering I'm actually in this relligion and to be fair I read about this an unhealthy amount of times, because I might be in deep in the religion.

But what do I know, I'm just some kid with a laptop.

Half of me thinks you're going in way too hard on him, and the other half of me is telling the first half to stfu, because I intensely agree with everything you said, especially the first paragraph. Why is it so difficult to find an artist of this level of skill who doesn't act like they're downright terrified of dark skin?

Nice info, however I kinda of agree with AsanteM with her appearance. I want to include that the Yoruba Orisha (pantheon) is originally from West Africa. Still a very nice piece of art though.

If she is a Nigerian goddess, the least you could do is make her LOOK Nigerian. LOL

Dark skin is ok. Remember that.

Nice art though.

I like this but surely if it's an African God you would think it would be an African person. This character looks Spanish and has straight shiny western hair. Not one of your most accurate representations.

Man, your work is just amazing! But Oshun is the Orixa of RIVER WATERS... The deity of SEA and OCEAN, of the beaches, is Iemanjá (Yemonja). And the Orixa of rain and thunder, is Iansã (Oya).

In the Brazilian Candomblé, I'm a Son of Oshun. But I think that this pic is very... sexy... to be Oshun. She is more... mathernal... lol

color --> yelow
1 star
1 sun
crowns
1 fan with plumage of peacock
the necklace color yelow
