So this is my entry for the contest at fav.me/d957gh1 by , and I've got to say that it turned out really well! This thing took HOURS (I should really record how long my drawings take...hm). I started by doing a lot of reasearch, and here's how it turned out: This drawing has inspiration from...
-Sharks
-Wolffish
-An ancient armored fish called Dunkleosteus
-Chinese Cloud Dragons (which are associated with the ocean)
-16th century Scandinavian monster charts
-Ancient Greek plate depicting the merman Triton
-Italian mosaic of Jonah and the Big Fish
-and a Japanese legend about the Dragon King, who ruled a magical land under the sea, and the sea creatures were his vassals. One day a fisherwoman stole a treasure from him, and had to flee from a whole host of sea creatures, among them a giant octopus!
It is mostly traditional art, with a few modifications made in Photoshop and a free water filter I found online.

Well, for the water effect I just found a free filter online xD I made this awhile ago and I didn't know much about making backgrounds then.
And yeah, I read about that legend in a book called "Unsolved Mysteries of the Past". There was one section on mermaids and sea dragons

Sorry, super tired when I replied x'D What I meant was that a lot of people think eastern dragons are only Chinese ones when Japan has some dragons in its mythology as well, I was saying it was nice to see something involving a Japanese legend ^^ Sorry I didn't clarify ^^'
