Lee Van Cleef's character of Col.Mortimer was more like a zen master than your usual bounty hunter,he had a matter of fact,good humoured, practical approach to his job.
No spite, no condescension,just get the job done and get it done right.
For a gunslinger, a very wise man.
I felt he (Mortimer) would have made a perfect Haku-Hasin Stag.

I loved that movie. If anything it is the best in the trilogy. The final gunfight with the watches makes my hairs stand on end.

That's exactly like the character of Col.Douglas Mortimer!
If you haven't seen "For a few dollars more" I recommend it highly!(super cool film!)The Colonel was a gentleman bounty hunter and a perfect foil to Eastwood's No Name Man character.

I haven't actually seen it, but since you recommended it, I'll look into renting it.

It's part of the "Man with no name" trilogy.
"A fist full of dollars was Leone's tribute to Kurosawa's "Yojimbo" (the first film) "For a few dollars more"(the second with Van Cleef's Col.Mortimer character)and the final one"The Good,The Bad,and The Ugly"(a prequel of sorts, with Van Cleef playing a baddie this time known as "Angel Eyes", a real rotter!)
Leone did a lot of great movies that ranged from westerns, crime dramas, and just plain simple stories about life.
I think Reiji Matsumoto is a fan of his work too.
