I felt the same way about this tree growing, seemingly by itself, on a reef off an island. So I got a kayak and went to visit it. I think we both felt better --the tree and I. Trust me...I visit trees you know... (Sometime you should take a look at George Nakashima's book The Soul of a Tree and then you'll see why I visit them.) Besides, there was curiosity about how a tree grows on a reef and in saltwater. And I still don't know the answer. Do you?
