That's a good news, now I'm saving money to buy one.
Besides the beercan I have a 28mm and a 50mm. Does the lens give any problem? I.E. autofocusing, metering, managing the focal, FFD?

I'd love to have a prime 28mm with some nice f values hehe, but keep in minde that the focal lengt gets multiplied by 1,5 so the 28 will be a 42, the 50 a 75 and the beercan becomes a 105-315.
I have no problems at all wiht the compatibiliy between the Alpha 100 and the beercan, sometime it has some little problems to focus but that's just the same normal problems it had with the 7000. My lense is pretty lound when focussing, but that is due to the fact that it simply is an old tough metal lens and not some cheapo plastic.
I heard some people get purple fringes when the sun shines just the right way, but I never had that problem, I suppose that's just because she was taking pictures with the sun shining right into the lense.
There is one compatibility problem, not with lenses, but with the Flash, old minolta flashes won't work unless they are of the D variant. The D variant flashes where sold with and for the Minolta 7d and 5d digital cameras (and since the sony alpha 100 is actually a clone of the d7 it works with them).
I look forward to see your pics done with the Alpha.

you have the beercan. I have that lens too. It's very nice, but it does have a lot of problems with flare and weird purple fringing.

Hehehe yeah the beer can or how it's called in german the oven pipe (Ofen Rohr). Till now I've had no problem with flare or purple fringing, ever tried to clean it or bring it to a professional revision?

I bought it from a camera shop that is very picky about what they buy used. They said that it was a common problem with this lens. With the lens hood on, flare isn't as bad.

ahh the noise on the alpha is so bad, I always set it to 100-200 ISO because even at 400 it can get hella grainy. blegh.

Well, from sony I have only the original 18-70 lens, it's actually oky for easy use but don't expec anything special from it, it's basically standard (I'm sure you noticed the slight play the focus and the zoom fo the lens has, and afterall it's just plastic).
Sony has started a fantastic collaboration with Carl Zeiss, from Germany, they make incredible lenses for Telescopes and Microscopes and now extra for the Alpha. Those Zeiss lenses are incredible, but also their price is pretty high (also if they are fully worth the money), so since I'm a studend and got a little budget I actually bought myself a Sigma 90 Macro lense and still use the other older Minolta lenses. The quality of the old (also second hands) Minolta or Sigma lenses is better (in my opinion) than the standard Sony one (Minolta lenses mostly have a though metal body), and (at least here in europe) you can find cheep and well kept second hand models in the various photography shops or even ebay.
But since you'r actually asking me for the best actual (new) lense with great DoF I'd say the SAL-1680Z - Carl Zeissยฎ Vario-Sonnar T* DT 16-80mm f/3.5-4.5 Zoom Lens, but if you want a Macro lens for macrophotography I suggest a SIGMA 105mm F2,8 EX DG MAKRO ([link] ), not only is it a good macro lens but it's also a really good for portraits, but it's a fixed not a zoom lense.
Hope this helped you some
