Description My drawing for the 11th anniversary of Cosmo's loss. It comes with a story of her eventual return. I must say it's been a while since I drew Cosmo like this, and then there's one more thing to throw into the mix - coincidences. Today is Saturday. April 29, 2006, the day Cosmo was lost, was also on a Saturday. The weather 11 years ago, at least in the Midwest, was incredibly violent, which didn't help how I felt. The Midwest's weather for today doesn't look good either.

Anyway, here's the story of how Cosmo came back.

--

It had been more than five years since Cosmo sacrified herself to save the universe from the evil clutches of the Metarex. She was enjoying time with her family up in Heaven when an angel came to her asking to come to the Throne.

After arriving at the Throne, the One spoke to her.

"How are things?" He said.

"Going well. Thanks for checking up, Father," replied Cosmo.

"You're welcome. Now as you can imagine, I have something I would like to tell you," said the One.

"What is it?"

"I'm very proud of the act of heroism you made five years ago, so proud that I decided upon doing something that I don't do every day. I was considering sending you back to be with that young fox you've become close to."

Cosmo felt unsure about this. She had been pleased that she was able to spend time with her family, something she wanted to do her whole life, but always had that sense of guilt about leaving Tails behind the way she did. "Is there some way I can come back any time to spend time with my family?" she asked.

The One gave this a thought, trying to think of a compromise. "I think that can be doable, but on one condition."

"Sure."

"Let him be with someone that's more of... his type. You can certainly help him find that special someone."

Cosmo smiled. "Of course," she said.

"And before you go, I have some news for you. Your homeworld has survivors, but they won't last too much longer. Tails will need your help in locating that world."

"Really?" she said.

"Indeed. Before you head back, you can share this news with your family."

Meanwhile, it was a warm and lovely Monday afternoon in early August, but Tails was feeling cold and miserable. Not one day had gone by without him thinking about Cosmo. He also felt responsible for Cosmo's death, something that didn't help his feelings. At the same time, he would've been responsible for the end of all animal life in the universe along with any plant life trying to resist or escape the wrath of the Metarex. Some choices are never easy, but this could not have been harder, and at a young age, he was forced into making such a choice. He was tearfully looking at the plant sprouting from the seed that Sonic salvaged from Cosmo when he heard the doorbell ring.

"Who is it?" he asked through the intercom.

"It's Sonic. May I come in?"

"The door's unlocked."

Sonic made his way in and saw Tails spending time alone with his plant. "Uh, I'm sure you know I'm performing a concert with the others for my 20th anniversary. Wanna come along?"

Tails said nothing.

"It'll be fun. You're going to have a great time."

"Sure," Tails said reluctantly. He was very protective of his plant.

Sonic could tell Tails needed a lot of encouraging to do something other than look at his plant all day. "Tails, listen," he said softly. "I did everything I could for her. I wish I could've done more, but I know Cosmo would want you to come along and enjoy this."

Tails knew Sonic was right. Putting a game face on, Tails went along, completely unaware that this concert was also for him.

The concert was already set up. Along with Sonic, Manic, Sonia, Amy, Knuckles, Billy, and Team Europe were all there ready to perform for a large crowd. They performed various songs such as...

"It Doesn't Matter" from the first Sonic Adventure
The Classic Remix of "Escape from the City" from the then upcoming Sonic Generations
"We Weren't Born to Follow" by Bon Jovi
"Live Life" by Crush 40 from Sonic and the Black Knight

They also performed other musical pieces from Sonic's previous adventures before finally finishing off with Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer." As the song reached its cresendo, a bright flash and dazzling fireworks lit up the night sky as the performers took on their super forms. As the flash died down, there was someone on stage who wasn't there a moment before.

It was Cosmo!

The crowd cheered and roared at the sight of Cosmo as the performers finished "Livin' on a Prayer" with the last part of "It Doesn't Matter" from Sonic Adventure 2. All Tails could do was cry at seeing Cosmo again, overwhelmed with shock and happiness over the fact that she somehow came back.

When the song ended, Billy shouted, "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, GIVE IT UP FOR TAILS AND COSMO!!"

The audience gave Cosmo a standing ovation as Sonic let Tails onto the stage to reunite him with the girl he missed so much. Tails continued to sob uncontrollably as Cosmo hugged him and kissed him on his forehead. He couldn't even hear the crowd. He could only feel the softness of Cosmo hugging and kissing him.

"Welcome back, Cosmo," said Sonic as he smiled and shook hands with her. "We missed you."

"I never did," replied Cosmo with a broad smile. "I was here with you the whole time."

Sonic and Billy chuckled. Soon, they finished their performance with their encore by singing "Reach for the Stars" from Sonic Colors. Tails and Cosmo were allowed to stay onstage and sing along with the performers and the crowd.

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, ONE MORE TIME FOR TAILS AND COSMO!!" shouted Sonic when the song finished. The crowd cheered away.

Soon, Sonic and Billy bid the crowd farewell promising more fun and excitement next time. Eventually, after grabbing all their gear, the gang headed for home.

"So, Tails. What'd you think?" said Sonic as they headed back. "Liked it?"

Tails was still too overwhelmed to say anything but gave a tearful smile and nod.

"I knew you would," said Sonic.

Everyone knew Tails' favorite part of the concert was seeing Cosmo come back, which reminded Sonic of something. "By the way," he said, "I got something for you. Care to do the honors, Cosmo?"

"With pleasure," smiled Cosmo as she gave Tails the clay pot where her plant grew. It was empty but had Cosmo's name on the outside. All Tails could do was give Sonic Cosmo a smile and chuckle, realizing that Sonic snuck over to his house while no one was looking to bring the plant to the concert.

Back at Tails' house, Tails and Cosmo spent a quiet evening together watching the stars shine brightly. In bed, Tails and Cosmo kissed each other good night with Tails welcoming her back. He happily cried himself to sleep with Cosmo by his side, having never felt so happy and warm in his life.

Nice art, and nice story. You should be a fanfiction writer.
