I drew this a couple years ago for an open assignment for art class at my high school (open meaning we can do whatever we want). It's not the only cause. After seeing the end of Sonic X episode 75, when Sonic inadvertently tossed Amy into space just before getting grabbed by the Metarex. Only Rouge was in the condition to save her, but I felt she would not because of the rocky relationship they had with each other.

So I drew Sonic sitting by Amy's grave as a result of her loss in the final days of the Metarex, but I was so relieved to see Rouge had indeed saved her in the beginning of Episode 76, but had no idea that Cosmo would be the actual fatality among the gang.
