I don't know what intaglio is, but yes, etching was a bit intimidating. It was difficult to draw and etch sometimes, not knowing what the result would look like. And the aquatint was a very different way of working; as you said, it's kind of working backwards.
And yes I did hand tint the colours, I'm glad you think it looks good (I made another coloured print where I tried to use 4 colours, but that came out horrible :-D so I didn't dare upload it)
