From what I've seen/heard of angels (and by extension demons) in literature is that despite having distinct pronouns for their identities (according to whatever author is writing about them), they are essentially genderless at their core, able to appear as any mixture of masculine and feminine traits that they wish. And when I heard Crowley was making an appearance as a woman in the "Dudley Dursley" character's childhood for the series, I thought, 'He's likely a handsome (i.e. winsome and lovely) woman.' This fan art pic proves me right.

I forgot to tack on the "mysterious" adjective in my description of "handsome woman". There it is now. When I showed off this fan art to my sister, she was in awe, although it mainly had to deal with the name Crowley chose: Ashteroth, obviously referring to the actual demon Astaroth, whom my sister remembers as the owner of the spell book Eglantine Price was learning from in Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
