Jamie's back. Man, this one got out of hand quickly...Jamie's Tattoos:
Jamie got her tattoos at the suggestion of Corrie, a friend two years older than her and the daughter of Jamie's captain's rival. Despite the animosity between their crews, Corrie and her younger brother Codamir were some of Jamie's earliest friends.
Her tattoos are a mixture between artwork from a local island well known to Needle Ocean pirates dubbed "Eel Island" (the home island of Corrie's maternal family) and ancient Aqat symbology. The tattoos are meant to be wards against bad luck, with each animal present in her tattoos representing something she might need protection against in a life at sea.
The eel just beside her elbow on her right arm (the other picture is very blurry, I'm sorry! So it's really hard to see) is protection against treachery and mutiny; the crab on her right shoulder is protection against doldrums and marooning. The shark (the totem of the Aqat's god, Aquamarex) is protection against storms, and the squid on her back is protection against drowning.

i dunno what I was expecting when you said she had a squid tattoo BUT IT CERTAINLY WASN'T THIS FABULOUS
that is super-awesome! I love how it's sort of ... abstract and flowy! I mean, I can see the squid, but it's also just a fabulous swirly design!

I like drawing in this sort of style. I drew a couple more while bored in class today--an octopus in a very similar style and a simpler manta ray.
If I ever get a tattoo, it's definitely going to be of my own design.
