Description Another late-night early morning drawing bout. I’m quite pleased with this, though it’s not the first Thestral I’ve drawn, I’m possibly most pleased with this one. I haven’t tried shading in a looong time, and never really experimented with crosshatching. I’m glad I didn’t screw it up, heh.
I like drawing Thestrals. They’re very interesting, and fun. Fun, because since they’re basically horse-skeletons with skin on the top I clearly don’t have to worry about the logistics behind the wings [I intended the bottom leathery part to be attatched to the side of the back, but then I drew that hind leg, which I quite liked, and decided that it didn’t matter –it’s clearly a magical creature] I’ll find my other Thestral pictures from last year someday and post them. A question, though, to anyone that’s familiar with horse anatomy – just how shallow should the Thestral’s chest be with no muscle? I have a feeling it’s actually quite shallower than I’ve drawn it…
Oh, and the thickness of the upper legs? Pretend that’s tendons, or something. My point is, were it a non-magical horse, it wouldn’t be living. Heh.
Check out the Chibbi Thestral I scrawled afterwards and threw into my scraps … aww, cyooote!

wow, very different to the other you've submitted but they're all very cool

could do with some more shading on the wings, they look like they're not there, but ti's very awesome

Thanks ^_^ I'm trying to edit my style a little... I'm not entirely happy with the way I draw normally, trying to make it more me.
*cringes* I wasn't sure what to do with the wings, really. Because they're in flight, there wouldn't be many wrinkles or anything, but I suppose there would be shadows from the curves... hmm. Thanks

yeah, that's what i meant, a little shading along the insides where the shadow of the bony part is

if that makes sense at all

*thinks* hm, yes. I'll try that, thanks [makes sense to me, though that doesn't mean it makes sense]
