Description
After watching the latest Simon and Marcy episode (amazing by the way) I had considered how Simon acted when he put on the crown and how the duo cared for each other. It seems Marceline had a grip as far as what was happening to Simon with the crown affecting his reason and personality, but she still stuck with him and cared for him. So I theorized somewhere it was starting to go wrong and situations like this eventually happened. My one gripe with the episode was I kept thinking, "Fuck, Simon! Just get a baseball bat or get a gun or something." But in reality it -is- a "kids" show and it was still amazing character development all the same. Hell, no guns could have meant it had taken place in the near future where maybe citizens didn't have guns like they used to; but I'm not even THINKING about opening the gun control can of worms today. Lets just say I advocate the second amendment seeing as I just chased a burglar away from my home the other day (yes, still real jumpy and pissed off about that).

So back to the damn art:

There wasn't a car to stow Marcy away in that time and the pack of wretched creatures drew closer, their sounds echoing in the distance in the otherwise silent and desolate part of the city. Simon turned to her with a weary and frantic expression.

"There's too many, Gunter... "

"Don't do it! You promised! Please don't, we can keep going!"

"Stay behind me, close your eyes. Remember that song? The one I made for you when you weren't feeling well? Maybe if you sing it a little, you'll feel a bit better?" He tried a smile to comfort her that felt more fake than he intended, he was gravely worried and out of breath from running while carrying her what felt like hundreds of blocks away from another horde of mutated creatures. Their gurgling rasping sounds were drawing closer.

Marceline clutched him and fought back stinging tears, "We can't just stand here! We have to keep running! We can get away from them again! We have to try."

"I'm exhausted, Marcy and those things don't seem to wear out or quit. We have been running too long from them, they only want to hurt us and if we're going to get out of this area without them, I don't have a choice."

She looked past him as multiple figures had begun to flood into the street in the distance, coming from seemingly everywhere, from behind ruined husks of vehicles and buildings, there were too many to bludgeon conventionally and no buildings that weren't charred rubble to hide in.

She sniffed and shook her head and tugged at his arm, wanting to run anyways. He smiled sadly and gave her a peck on top of her head.

"I don't know what's going to happen when I put it on this time, kiddo. But you listen," he knelt and took her ragged shoulders in his hands, "No matter what, if its too scary, if I'm.... bad. You run. You run from me, you get away, take Hambo and don't look back. Stay behind me, okay? Can you do that?" She sniffed and nodded then gave him the hardest hug she could. She plopped down and squinted her eyes shut and palmed her ears and sang that song to herself, though it sounded more like sobbing. Simon took a last sad look to the girl and took a deep breath. The monsters were about a block away now as he felt his hand grip the crown tied to his belt. As he murmured to himself, the monsters had begun a run towards them.

"Don't ever hurt her....ever."
