Thanks!

Sounds awesome... I have to travel a bit to find these little guys. Our woodlot isn't damp enough for newts.

These little guys are strange. There's really no known reason for the two color phases the efts have (orange or olive), and the bright orange coloring tends to become muted in adulthood. They only thing that remains constant is the red spot pattern, hence their name.

Yeah, that is odd. And sorta interesting, although I know nothing of amphibians. x3

They were one of the four major animal ID units in my wildlife tech. major... mammals, birds, reptiles/amphibians, & fish. Although birds interest me more, the reptile/amphibian studies included a lot more handling time in the field.

Ah, I see. I bet that was fun. I'd love to do something like that someday. ^-^

With a bit of volunteer training, there are plenty of opportunities to help out wildlife biologists and other land management professionals throughout the USA.

How old do you have to be?

Depends on what you want to do. Habitat restoration work is only limited by how much physical labor you can/want to put into it. Field surveys are typically done by groups of volunteers under the watch of a professional biologist, and I've taught kids as young as seven and eight how to help out with stream surveys.

Ah, alright. Thanks for the information. I might look into that sometime.
