Description
Continuing with my series of favorite Skyrim runs, here's Skala!
Skala Torgundayr was born a true nord of Skryim. She’s a brick wall of a fighter, specializing in shield and sword combat. There’s no better place for her to be than in the front lines, taking blows in her heavy armor and sending them back with more power. She’s a master forgesmith, having created the best smithed items from the best of materials. Her aetherial shield Ghost’s Bulwark is her front line defense, while Dawnbreaker follows up behind for her hard hits.
Skala grew up in Dragon’s Bridge, where she learned to have a deep love for Skyrim, but not so much the Empire. She spent her younger years learning how to fight and how to smith, before eventually leaving for the east side of Skyrim.
For a while, she held a high rank within the scores of the Stormcloaks when Civil War broke out. She supported Ulfric as she grew older, but she was taken aback by his treatment of the other races of Windhelm, and eventually his teachings of isolationism. It almost met a tipping point when she watched the argonians treatment on the docks of the city.
However, she continued to fight for Skyrim. At one point, she eventually ran into a critical fight with a large khajiit man from the Empire. The fight lasted hours until they both collapsed from exhaustion. It was at this point that she rethought about her relations, and joined Zar’reth on their journey of Skyrim to truly protect the nation, defecting from the Stormcloaks.
Skala spends her excess time improving her armor and weapons, while also making more. Her first new creation after leaving the Stormcloaks was a set of gauntlets for Zar’reth, in return, he gave her Dawnbreaker. She also spends time looking for interesting smithing recipes and techniques. She’s even delved into ancient dwemer sites and discovered the mythical aetherium, and made her shield from it. She also acts as the face of the party, since most nords prefer to speak to another nord.
She dabbles mildly in restoration magic, but excels at being a battlefield leader if she’s not directly in front. When her blood is boiled enough, she may even release the righteous fury she holds inside to smite an enemy. She finds herself between worlds, both missing the comradery and Skyrim-centric focus of the Stormcloaks, but also sees similar things on the Imperial side. While she never found many other groups of people to confide in, she found a strong similarity in Balfruuf’s position, and hung close to him.
Her favorite locations include Solitude and Windhelm, and especially Whiterun. The only other pace she holds important is an unmarked battle site north of Whiterun where she met Zar’reth.
