I always felt that Shadow, in his first appearance, felt less edgy, and more of just... mature. I feel like Shadow fits more with Blues and Jazz music, although I'm not complaining about the Metal and Rock music that he's associated with. I would still like a game with a "Noir" style with Rouge and Shadow buddy-copping it up. Maybe Shadow might say he's too old for this shit.
