Description

Heard of the kakapo? Any guess what sort of bird it is?

(My mum guessed a penguin)

But no, it is not.

Not an owl.

They are, in fact, a chonky flightless parrot from New Zealand!

Incredibly adorable, and if you see a video of them, they look so goofy and silly and I love them.

Unfortunately, they are also critically endangered. But thanks to intense conservation efforts, their numbers are now over 200!

Prints of this guy are available here !

Species: Strigops habroptilus - Kakapo

Media : Vivia watercolour sheets & black india ink on A5 mixed-media paper.

Definitely a species that needs more recognition!

Ah, the 'owl parrot'! The world's only flightless species of parrot, the heaviest parrot, and the only flightless bird to use a 'lek' breeding system. Found on only a few predator free isles, such as Codfish Island, where they are watched round the clock (kinda)
