Born from the petrol tar lakes below Ironsteam City, these monstrous masses of bubbling black sludge with glowing red eyes scurry back and forth through factory pipelines and ambushing their prey from within, possessing the ability to generate small minions by spitting parts of his body at his enemies, even being able to control people to whom these huge drops of pitch have fallen on their heads.

In Grey's adventure: The First Black Ooze that Grey faced in the wider area of Ironsteam's depths, had been followed by the First Tankman he had defeated earlier (who had an arm and a leg lopped off) who still had the mission to eliminate Grey, but at that moment the robot ends up being devoured in one bite by the black and bubbling Mass which now uses it as a weapon that shoots petrol tar projectiles to the demi-human.
