Description As many of you know, 'Shalom' means Peace in hebrew.
Is it any wonder there is so much wire in it's way?

Tel-Aviv, Israel.

Nice picture; by the way, "hashalom" in Hungarian means something like a "pile of bellies".

That's right, it looks b-a-d. The concept is great, it's just the performance of it which I don't like

splendidly ironic. and sadly so.

Amazing concept
But doesn't it also means Hello and Good bye?? When i wnet to ISrael people were saying it all the time for hi's and goodbye's

gilad In reply to PalomaDyz [2004-11-04 20:44:53 +0000 UTC]

True, It meas hello (not goodbye, though you can use it for that).
But using it as a noun like "The peace" or in hebrew "Hasalom" can only meen peace.

I wonder if we are able to unleash ourselves from our destiny to live with hate and constant fear...

i notice a lot of people just saying "good contrast of colour" or "nice angle", but i'm not going to say that. i understand where you're coming from and why you took this photo. peace does not include barbed wire, and maybe some people didn't realize that. you captured this image well. great job.

They say the path to peace is lined with thorns.... hopefully this path is heading the same direction. Your ability to turn philosophy into imagery always inspires. Great work as usual.

Amazing message, bittersweet...........because the word shalom is NOT covered with barbed wire.
You had a catching eye for symbolism..again.

I'll pray for peace over there!

excellent concept as always.
i love how bleak the surroundings are.. the wall and the sky.. and the sign is so vivid and bright. but there is always the reminder of the reality .. with the barbed wire... very thought provoking.

Another image that tells an amazing story within itself. It looks so old and worn like it has been trying so hard to keep what its name holds. Yet maybe as the paint fades and the wires start to cover its name, so do the hopes of things getting better.

I think it is very powerful and moving. When this one hits the print stage like most of your works it may be on my wall shortly after .

Cheers

a simpler statement that is so complex, could never be said so blatantly as this. (so long as you understand hebrew) the symobology in this piece is very staggering. well captured!

Sometimes you amaze me...
the different contrasting elements; the echoing of the circle shape in the background and foreground; the contrasting colors - they all come together in a great composition that is a catalyst for the meaning.

I wish I could pay attention to the little details as much as you.

I used to live on this street 6 months ago.

Further down the road from where you took that picture.
That's the Azriely towers in the far background if I'm not mistaken... So that should be either that vacant lot with by the cemtary or that.. storage place or something... across the street from it.

I know what you mean. I always thought it was a funny name for a main street in Tel-Aviv.
Interestingly enough, it intersects with Itzhak Rabin.
