Description These stones were quarried and rejected in the late 1800s. Some of them had obviously been worked and partially squared off. The stone is colloquially known as “white granite”, but is officially called Quartz Monzonite. The area is now a monument and hiking/biking trail. The stone that was accepted for use from this quarry can now be seen in the walls of the Utah State Capitol building, the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and more recently, the church’s conference center in Salt Lake.
