A mermaid in gold rusted scales
Reclines on a rock at the edge of the sea
She tells me a tale of the deep ocean waters
The shallows, clear rock pools and beaches
Storm breakers, flood tides and wild waves
The fishes that swim through her hair
Limpets and lobsters, pearl shells and eels

Her eyes, dark liquid mirrors
Stare behind salt crystal lashes
Fins flick in the spray, arms reaching and grasping
Seaweed makes a slippery place to lay

Enchanted, I am caught
And dragged down to play
Forever, under the waves

I have recently looked back over some of my older works and fixed a few of the little things that had always bugged me but I never really knew what to do about at the time... For this piece it was the siren's face, especially the eyes. They had never really matched up before but now she has the look I'd imagined for her to begin with.
