Description Bulma building a curious sand 'castle'!

This image is my entry for a contest held by the group SexyFemaleDrawings:

YAY! I got the second price!

I had to draw a sexy babe on the beach, and I chose this Dragonball character.
I imagined her on the Turtle Hermit island. I mean, there's a beach on it, Bulma's often there and doesn't lack neither sex appeal (definitely not !) nor playful attitude... well, I thought of this combination and took the chance!

Summer's ending where I live, and I'd also love this to be a little present for all those whose holidays are ending or already ended up.
A touch of tropical ocean for every time of the year!

Model posing, drawing, inking and coloring took me much more time than I thought, but in the end who cares, I'm quite happy with the result!

As requested, this time I definitely focused on her shapes and... well...
... I hope you enjoy it!

Looking at pictures like this you'd think that Vegeta would be grateful for the fact he managed to get together with a woman like this. I know I would be.

But nooooooo, he practically ignores her through most of their scenes together.

The only proof that they're even together at all is the fact that they had a kid together.

Wow! This is awesome! I love the idea of Bulma building Sand Dragonball's. To me it proves she's obsessed with them like she was in Dragonball. This makes me want to watch Dragonball and Dragonball Z all over again for the nostalgia. Thank you for that

Admittedly; I'm one of those awful people that fav and run like the wind. But very occasionally one of those incredible art pieces come along and force me to come out of my laziness burrow and say something. This is one of such pieces. You did an amazing job with it, paying attention to detail like the clouds for instance, and the concept of Bulma building not a castle but sand dragonballs is just genius. I absolutely love it.

omg this comment really made my day! I'm really, totally, absolutely, enormously happy you like my picture!
I mean, if ever your words weren't enough to make me overjoyed, you're also a DB fan and a very talented artist!!
What to say... THANK YOU A LOT!
really! doing fanarts is a way to improve someone's skills and most of all show appreciation for the creator artist's work and share some impressions with other people who have common interests... and receiving such comments and encouragement (thanks for watching too!! ) is a very big satisfaction.
I'm think i'm going to smile all evening long thanks to you...
...THANKS AGAIN!!!!!

Aww, such nice words. I thank you truly from my heart. Since you’re so kind and open it’s only fair for me to respond in a likewise manner. People have different motivations to do the art they do, I can totally see how someone will choose to do fanarts to practice and develop skills, in my opinion that’s the best way to do it. It’s always important to be really into the subject matter to enjoy the work, that can be often times exhausting (at least for me). Last thing you want is to be working for hours in something that you hate.
For me, my motivation is simple and rather silly. First of all I don’t consider myself an β€˜artist’, nor I aspire to be one either. My fanarts are self-contained pieces that fulfill no other goal than just β€œbe” - standalones. My motivation came about after searching like mad for great DBZ [official] pictures, some I found, but mostly I didn’t. So what I do is the kind of work I’d like to see being done with DBZ. And that’s pretty much it.

ginkoflowers In reply to NamekianKAI [2010-09-15 23:40:45 +0000 UTC]

You know, I started with a quest for beautiful β€˜official’ DBZ pictures too. I got fond of some Dragonball anime characters in particular, because I found they had a smart narrative development during the sagas; then I started looking for some images of them on the web, and ended up choosing fellows like Vegeta as reference subjects for my digital drawings.
I’ve always been attracted by the cel-shaded style, as it’s synthetic and very expressive. Furthermore, I like intense and lively colors and precise lines, and Dragonball characters can be represented as I like to do without modifying their original aspect too much. I prefer not to change them excessively, especially their personalities, because I perceive them as expressions of the author’s will, and I like to respect it as long as it’s possible.
My pictures are certainly a way for me to practise, as you said, on a matter that makes me enjoy the huge amount of hours spent between a screen and a tablet (yes, it IS exhausting!).
I also find fanart pretty stimulating, letting you get trained with already depicted characters and, most of all, making you share some impressions with other fans. Which is something beautiful and very enriching.
In the end, I’m truly bound to the characters I depict, and it’s very interesting to put something personal in them and see how other fans react. It’s a sort of charming play to me.

I thank you very much for sharing your motivation and your inspiring goals with me, and I must say I don’t find them silly at all! Maybe simple, yes, but not silly. You didn’t find the kind of images you’d like to see, and so started making them on your own (β€˜be the change you want to see in the world’… wasn’t it Gandhi? ). And the results are here to be seen, aren’t they?
I like your style because it respects the original one, but it’s much more detailed, and you pay attention to details like light effects, shading and atmosphere. And the intense colors really meet my taste.

I read the note you sent me, and I can't help being overjoyed by it! I'll answer properly tomorrow - my replies are quite slow when I think they're worth a deeper reflection.
For the moment, I want to thank you again very much for your kind words and for all your support, I really hoped to find someone so caring and generous being interested for my works (I agree: I never call them β€œmy art”! it’s something immodest and disagreeable if done by the very author).
I'm happy to see we share similar opinions on our approach to drawing, and I can't wait to be in touch again to comment each other's pictures.
One of the main reasons for which I joined this community was precisely to have reciprocal exchange of views with people like you. Thanks again, really.

All I can say is wow, there's not an awful lot I can add after your lovely post. You covered every aspect, it's amazing how 2 people can think so alike. I see a lot of myself on what you've written. Perhaps the one thing I forgot to say was that I don't think of myself as an 'artist' because I fit more on the graphic design camp (that might help to explain a thing or two...) lol.
Thank you for your response I can see you put a lot of thought into it and I can't tell you how much I appreciate that. I'll too be looking forward to our future interactions.
