Description This might seem like a sudden leap to you guys. But.
I think I’ve reached a turning point in my art.

For the past two years, my personality, who I am, has been gushing into my backgrounds! They’re really me, and every time I look at my weird twisty branches and craggly rocks, I know that it’s all me, totally me, who I am coming out in visual form.

But often times, I get real tired of my animals. For a while I thought I was just starting to get sick of drawing animals period, but that can’t be true.
I’m still doodling everything from bears to squirrels to wolves on the sides of my notebook pages constantly, but over the past few months, they’ve been coming out looking like this when I realy get into the experience of drawing them. Not just sitting down and going over the anatomy meticulously, like I've been doing, but really just sitting down and letting myself go and get lost in the linwork, like I do when I draw backgrounds.

I think I’m fully and deeply content with my environment work,it just exudes what I am and how I see the world (or at least, how I would like it to look! ) but my animal drawings haven’t really excited me in a while, at least not the ones that I TRY to draw REALISTICALLY.

It’s just not me anymore, I’ve exhausted full-on realism with animals. I think it’s time to let my style shine through in my animal drawings, too. I hope you guys understand as I transition into a different approach!

TL;DR IMMA DRAW ANIMULS THE WAY I WANNA DRAW DEM, WHO NEEDS ANATOMY IT'S MY STYLEEE.

But on a serious note, this is the finalized sketch of Cas, a wolf god character I'm drawing for as part of a full Premium Commission. I hope she loves it~

My gosh, rock on girly!
Always keep advancing and exploring with your art, you know how to draw anatomy correctly, but that doesn't mean you have to do it! Draw animals the way you want, give them big long hairy necks filled with leaves and twigs and moss, limbs that turn into roots, tails that flow in the breeze like the delicate branches of a willow tree! Or create an array of spirits, spirit animals and mytholo- OMG YOU SHOULD TRY OUT SOME MYTHOLOGICAL CREATURES just sayin'.

If I ever get to commission you again, it will definitely be something creative and mythical and, just, OMG.

You've reached the point in your understanding of anatomy where you can STYLIZE LIKE CRAZY GURL, and it will still look awesome and well.. right.
I don't really think I have a style for linework and that sort of thing, but my coloring is kind of distinctive. ARGHH I NEED TO WORK MORE FFF

I'm so happy you think so~!
I'm glad I took the time to discipline myself and actually learn anatomy, because I just won't have any fluidity or feeling without a god grasp on animal structure.
Thank you~!

I love your style! And I love how you describe your style-- everyone should think like that! Style should be a projection of yourself and not something that you try to achieve! ♥
In any case, I noticed a change right away. But it's a wonderful, whimsical change and I really love it! Especially the face and paws... they really add a lot of personality to the character. C:
I'm looking forward to seeing more of this style in the future! ♥

I know, I've just been so hesitant to change.
BUT.
Everybody seems to love not only the new approach, but my confidence about embracing it, not holding back so much anymore.
Thanks for your support!

The swirlies and the curlies and the swishies and oh my!
Your style is no doubt gorgeous, realism is over-rated and over-used. In your case, a beautiful way of portaying wildlife yes, but not really YOUR WAY of showing your art, hmm?

I love the toes, and the nose. Shape, fur, eveything just beams - Great work Ginn, you're onto summit!

haha, this comment made me laugh~!

Exactly! I managed to make realism feel a little like ME, but when it gets right down to it, I was stifling myself. And stifling yourself is NEVER a good idea in art, whatever your goal is.

Thank you so much! I'm so glad that people seem to like it so far!

Use your style. USE IT If everyone just drew realistic animals, what fun would life be?

Nice picture by the way, the fur is especially lovely.

Exactly how I've been feeling lately!
But I'm glad I drew realistically fro so long. I have a good grasp on anatomy now, so my style will be accurate as well as expressive.

and thank you~! <3
