Description This was an book design for my Typography Class. The idea was to choose an subject and to design a book for that subject based off of an grid that we designed based on that subject. Get all that? So I chose the snail and based an grid off of the shell (cliche yes) and off of the teeth of the snail.

The book is actually supposed to be accordion fold, so imagine all of the spreads one after another. I'm happy with the results of the spreads, not so much of the bound product. I'm going to rebind it and then I'll post pictures of the end product. Don't get your hopes up for that to happen anytime soon though.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the book it took me forever and a day to get it all done. Snails are crazy though, did you know they have thousands of teeth?

My only real suggestions with be a) bring your headers and your copy further apart because some of it seems a little bit too close - perhaps about 15% more of your header's height space between the two just so there's an easy passage between; and b) be careful with cross-page diagrams - even with all the wonderful advancements in the binderies in recent times, the book still has to be bound - that seam will ruin almost any diagram you throw at it.

Werd.

I agree with you completely on the headers! Made my grid based off the snail and my teacher approved it, problem is he also approved it being an tiny book (cause its an tiny creature) and it seriously limited my space and type size. Big mistake of not trying stuff out on the grid at the size I wanted too before turning that part in.

As for the diagrams, its an accordion style book so you can actually lay those spreads out flat but I was thinking about binding it in the traditional sense as an portfolio piece and I didn't think about that so I'll have to move some stuff if I decide to do that.

Thanks for the great advice! Its incredibly helpful getting outside advice, classmates and teachers tend to pull punches.
