It all started 20 years ago. A young boy was running through the dark and rainy night. The water splashed with every step he took. He was panting and tired of running but he knew once he stopped they would get him. The street lights were dim but he could still see where he was going. He came to some stairs that lead to the city square. He ran down them but before he reached the bottom he slipped down and landed face first on the ground. He scrambled to pick himself up, but they were standing right behind him.

"Now Franken, you shouldn't have run away. You know what happens when you don't listen to us," said one of the men.

The young boy looked up at them in terror. He didn't wanna go back with them. He knew exactly what they would to do him. They would first tie him up and then put him to sleep. Once he was sound asleep, they would start the horrible unstoppable experiments.

He didn't even try to struggle; it wouldn't do him any good. He just let them carry him off to his unavoidable destiny.

Once they got back to his "home", they locked him in his "room". He walked over to the wall and started pushing it. He didn't know why but he wanted it to move out of his way.

He gave up after a while and curled up on his bed pulling his legs to his chest. He felt a strange feeling go through his entire body. He let out a crazy laugh that frightened him.

Just then he heard the door unlock and the sweet blonde woman that usually stopped to see him walked in. She greeted him with a friendly smile that always made him feel better.

"Hi Franken. How are you?"

He wanted to answer her, but no words came out.

"Look, I have some exciting news for you. You get to leave this place."

Once he heard this, he sat up and a huge grin went across his face. This was a smile that the woman had never seen.

"You'll be going to attend a school called the Death Weapon Meister Academy. You'll find a partner who you'll move in with."

Death Weapon Meister Academy? He wondered what kind of place that would be like.

Four years had passed and that weird feeling that had first overcome him was still present. But when it did happen to him, he would put his weapon partner, Spirit Albarn, to sleep and would start to dissect him.
This was his madness. He couldn't help it. But one he was finished, he would realize what he had done to his friend. To punish himself, he would cut himself open and dissect himself. He did this many times. But only on the days he knew Spirit would be out of the house.

One day after he cut open his weapon, he locked himself in his lab and begun to cut open his arm. He never used anything to numb the pain to torture himself for Spirit. The pain was terrible. The knife pierced his skin and he saw the blood run from the newly formed cut and flow like a river to the floor and splash up on his pant legs. He kept cutting and more and more blood gushed out.

While he was cutting himself open, the door of the lab slowly opened and Spirit stuck his head inside.

"Hey, Stein, are you in here? Come on we've gotta......." he stopped in mid-sentence as he saw his friend and the pool of blood at his feet. "What the hell are you doing?" he yelled as he ran up and pulled the knife out of the crazy man's hand and threw it on the floor. He ran and grabbed a towel and wrapped it around his friend's arm. He looked up at Stein and noticed a strange metal object that went straight though his head. He freaked out and fell to the ground. His eyes where opened wide and his whole body was shaking.

"What's wrong, Spirit?"

"What the hell is that thing coming out of your head?"

"Oh, this?" he asked as he slowly turned it. "You see, when I dissected myself," he said pointing to his face, "my head wouldn't stay together so I had to put this in so I wouldn't fall apart."

"Stein, I don't think I'll ever figure out why you do this. But I have some orders from Lord Death. Since the madness has taken over you, we can no longer be partners. Tomorrow, I'll be finding my new partner. I'm so sorry. All I can hope is that we can still be friends."

Spirit walked out and they didn't see each other for over 10 years when Stein started to work at the school he once attended.
