I like your portraits as much as I like your action shots, and this is no exception: it's awesome!
The background is interesting: was this taken backstage, or at a location near where the festival was?
If you forgive me for commenting on the subject... he is so incredibly good looking. *swoons*

Thank you! This was backstage, there happened to be an oak conveniently placed just a meter away from the press area.

Haha, no problem, he is

melyanna In reply to GIVEthemHORNS [2011-05-29 15:36:23 +0000 UTC]

How many of the musicians that you have met in person were actually nice people?
I have worked backstage on a festival once and met Grave Digger and Running Wild and the members of both bands were absolutely great.
Especially Grave Digger, very fun and social.
I was there serving them food, drinks and generally making sure that things went OK during the gig and at one point, Grave Digger's drummer, Stefan Arnold, was surprised that I wasn't eating and insisted to share his pizza with me. How cool is that?
The strange thing is, there was a smaller band that was opening the festival, a barely known band at that time, and they behaved like the stars of the show.

GIVEthemHORNS In reply to melyanna [2011-05-29 15:52:51 +0000 UTC]

I have met only maybe 2 which I would not consider to be extremely nice people, everyone else was nice.

But if you mean totally awesome and who I would have loved to be friends with, it is maybe 6.

Sounds like a nice job you got to do And I think it is pretty normal what you describe about those guys, they are still people and have work ethics, it is just some of them get picked on more than the others or let things get into their head... but this is also always for a reason.

As for the other band that behaved like the stars of the show... well once you have made it you can be confident enough not to turn on the star factor, and you don't need to prove anything to anybody. The nicest and most relaxed and most professional people I have met are pretty high on the star factor scale, the not so nice ones were usually in struggling and underestimated bands.

It is the same in every aspect of life, if someone yells too much about how cool and important they are, it exactly means this is something new or yet unknown to them.

melyanna In reply to GIVEthemHORNS [2011-05-29 16:04:47 +0000 UTC]

I think you are right, they behaved like the stars of the show because they had something to compensate, since they weren't the stars at all.
It was lovely job, though, I would do it again if I had the opportunity, even if I had to work from 3pm to 4 am and I wasn't paid.
I got to see the festival and meet the bands I like and that was awesome.

GIVEthemHORNS In reply to melyanna [2011-05-29 16:15:44 +0000 UTC]

Well it sort of pays for itself, you will have something fun and exciting to look back at and remember.
Which festival was it, btw?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

melyanna In reply to GIVEthemHORNS [2011-05-31 10:45:48 +0000 UTC]

It was a very local festival, called "Powermad", in Vigevano, which is my hometown.
It was crazy, because it was the first time ever that Running Wild accepted to play in Italy, so, for a small town, the number of fans was massive and coming from all Italy and even other Countries (mainly Greece).

Yup, the experience was awesome enough to pay for itself

Lunore In reply to GIVEthemHORNS [2010-12-11 04:56:13 +0000 UTC]

I actually don't know 0.o
He looked clammy and was sweating.
His tour included the American healthcare system that we are so proud of. I can tell you for a FACT that he most likely had to wait over twelve hours in the emergency room at the hospital where they probably took him.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GIVEthemHORNS In reply to Lunore [2010-12-11 08:24:02 +0000 UTC]

And I thought the US was perfect about this sort of stuff. Hard to believe they actually could do that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lunore In reply to GIVEthemHORNS [2010-12-13 04:17:14 +0000 UTC]

Healthcare in America is about money. For example, just the ride to the hospital in the ambulance is going to cost him $800USD. Health insurance doesn't cover anything 100% (some not anywhere close to that), so even if you have it, you can still be dishing out a pretty penny to medical billing companies after a health crisis. Out of pocket.
To top it off, Doctors often go to locations in the country where they get paid more, my geographic location tends to be poorer than other areas of the country by comparison, so there's a bit of a hospital shortage-hence the overloaded emergency room with it's excessive wait times. There's other factors too, but we could go on all day. If anything I'd recommend watching the documentary "SiCKO" for another look at the situation, but the general rule in America is don't get sick.

GIVEthemHORNS In reply to Lunore [2010-12-13 06:41:20 +0000 UTC]

It's everywhere about money to some extent, but I thought it's more about what quality service you get. 800? Uh, and if they find some homeless dude in the street bleeding to death in need of aid and it's obvious he doesn't have a cent, then what will they do?

Uh. I come from a 3rd world country but so far I've managed to have a doc come visit at home whenever I had a fever of 38... not to mention anything more serious. And for free, too.

Lunore In reply to GIVEthemHORNS [2010-12-14 03:48:28 +0000 UTC]

Well, here's a brief article and discussion on that topic.:

There are also private hospitals. If you end up going to one of those, they will show you no mercy and turn your account over to bill collectors. Also there a ways of denying care without "denying" it. For example, private hospitals often have their own health insurance plans. If you show up there with a health plan they don't accept, they'll look at you very strangely and either direct you to another hospital that does accept it, or they'll treat you and expect you to cough up the money for the bill.

GIVEthemHORNS In reply to Lunore [2010-12-14 09:59:30 +0000 UTC]

Well looks like at least they wouldn't let people die out there, thanks for that.

Well I've been trying to avoid all those private hospitals all my life, but from what I heard it will be the same in any country if you end up in one.
