Description
designed for Designing Frenzy #2 by the Fashion Design group link here [link]I don't design oversized things so this was particularly challenging for me.
In the end, I opted for the military trend with a twist-I decided to design a jacket inspired by Japanese Samurai warriors, reflecting design elements such as the fore-arm guards, the layering of pieces, and the panelling on the armor.
accessories are oxblood tights tucked into beige legwarmers with platformed heeled combat boots, plus plain ruched grey wool gloves. a dark plum bag completes the look.
details: the shoulder details are obviously letter; the greyish details are knitted wool (and it's part of the coat, now just layered underneath it) and the navy i would make some sort of wool suiting...but that's just me brainstorming. there are three exposed button closures.

Loving the asymmetiricalness-ness of the coat! And the colour placement of the entire piece! i like the tailored shoulders and how the coat well the blue part, is like a dress but still part of the jacket that is attached to the gray. i reallyyy like. Nice layering!!! Works quite well. Given all the elements of your outfit seperately and I would of thought you were crazy to try and create something with such but you would of proved me wrong! ^^ Great job and good luck!

thanks! this was really great feedback and i really appreciate it! i dont think i'll win though, not enough "over-sized-ness" which i acknowledge because i hate the though of losing the female figure and drowning in fabric.

Oh why anytime!!! Pshh hey keep your head up and act like you own everything, sometimes confidence is the greatest key to winning. Don't undermine your own work! Lol I hear you though sometimes oversizey-ness is unflattering but many have pulled it off nicely.

lol ok. it was more of like "oops, didn't meet the design requirements...oh well" i kind of have a BCBG Max Azria sort of style->bandage dresses ALL THE WAY. drapey and oversized things do look nice on runway models, but i think it makes everyone else look like a giant mess or a giant blob. DX

Haha I get you! I even have a few of those moments myself xD Ahhh I see. Pshh anything exagerated looks good on runway models. Lol depends who where's it and how they pull it off. Some people are miracle workers ^^

idk i think that she just keeps showing the same thing challenge after challenge, and it gets boring (i mean there's no doubt that she's a good designer, it's just whether or not she's special)

Now anyways, lets talk THIS episode. What did you think about Chris' x-ray design?

i love chris, but i think he can do so much more. he's a great designer, no doubt about it, but whether or not he pushes the envelope far enough is questionable.

I think... his stuff is more simple, delicate, detailed, modern, and inspiring pieces, not stuff that should be tempored with loud, colorful, elaborate stuff.

i really do love his work, it's just i think of project runway as a chance to find the "next big thing"
and yes, his work is very beautiful, i don't think he's revolutionary (unlike Sonjia. She put a lot of designs that I've never seen before and were very new and refreshing)
though i LOVE his shredding technique. it's enchanting.
and as for elaboration, i think for a fashion *show*, he should balance it out, like have simple pieces, but also have more "designed" pieces to show that he *can* put on a show, do you know what I mean?

Thats so true I guess. With fashion shows, which I do totally agree with the judges, you need different pieces. Because, although I absolutely love Chris' designs that episode, it was the same stuff. I really wished he showed the gown, because it'd give a little bit more of a taste, instead of just a simple black top, with the x-ray skirt and then the x-ray shirt, with the black pants.
This is the whole reason why Venn got out, for doing that orgami rose thing over and over, except Chris does something different each challenge, just not in his shows. I do understand that they all have to have a matching theme, but like fabio's collection (which honest to say I HATED) it had a more diverse look to it. Different styles, with different colors, but all pastel and sorta rockin.
ps i love talking with you about project runway too XD all my friends watch x-factor instead and it drives me crazy o_<

i did not like fabio's collection AT ALL though I do applaud him for taking a risk. i think the judges were just upset because like the episode where they decide who to send, chris only sent out a small cocktail dress and some booty shorts DX i think what saved him was the judges KNOW what he's capable of
and his excuse was that he didn't have enough time and he only send out looks that fit, which almost destroyed his changes of getting in; if only he had taken the time to figure out which pieces he wanted to send out, there would be no doubt of his place in fashion week
and i kinda digged ven's origami rose thing O_o though it did get old, but it was really impressive

ohhh god. That episode where chris almost got out. I was so glad the judges knew his capabilities... because if not... I would of screamed there and then. Fabio's outfits were... I have no idea how to explain them. THe pastel colors, and the weird dresses/tops/vests... Its too... drape-y in my opinion. Its too simple in some places and other places was like "what was he thinking?!" I think thats why he chose the dumb wigs, to sorta distract the awful design...
Haha I do agree it was cool, but it did get old and just.... old. And then his heritage dress XD oh tim... he knows the right things to say XD

LOL Ven has so much skill XD though whether or not he has more skills than just one is questionable.
I personally don't like Fabio's outfits, but I can understand why the judges responded the way they did. Though I thought it was sloppy and "not luxe" and I felt it looked really washed out. But then again, it's the only one with color so...same judge's response (omg color?!? what is this you speak of?!?! bonus points for using color)
they're so predictable. it's not even funny. i liked how they used new judges for all stars, judges that actually knew what they were talking about.

Yes. The color thing! XD the judges got blinded by the colors AGAIN. I mean, they dont think that their might be a meaning BEYOND color XD I dont understand it. Although, I do give him bonus points, not for using color, but for thinking about something he hasnt quite shown at all to the judges, other then everyone else, who showed what the judges said they liked, instead of showing the judges something they've never seen before.

I really hate MIchael Kors, honestly actually, he's so mean in a non-practical way.... he critiques awfully and in a mean way instead of the way Heidi judges.

YES absolutely!! i mean melissa just latched onto what the judges say they liked (leather jackets, high collar, etc...) and didnt give us anything new. def props for fabio for actually being creative, instead of giving us the same boring silhouette (sorry Dmitry!! D
but michael is hilarious. but i honestly sometimes don't understand why he says some things that he says like "that's boring" because i actively follow fashion like crazily, and michael's designs aren't the most exciting things ever

and I can't believe the judges picked Sonjia over Melissa!! Sonjia had freaking like 4 wins!! you don't just get rid of someone who has that many wins!! and plus i thought her avant garde dress WAS avant garde, versus Melissa's dress was just another stupid high collared leather jacket (she's done like 8)

Yes yes yes I sooo agree. I love dmitry too, but his look wasnt avant garde in THAT episode....
I mean like, it looked like an airline hostess that stole dracula's colar. Ugh. But I usually LOVE Dmitry. And yeah, also in that episode, Melissa's outfit was a MESS. Awful awful awful, and all the same. I love her leather jackets, but.... REALLY? Another one? And awful coloring in my opinion....

LOL!! Agreed!! I did not find Dmitry's look avant garde enough, but I think everyone's look just sucked so bad, that his was the only one that wasn't horrifyingly ugly. The only critique on his look was the styling/collar, whereas everyone else had major problems. Though I really did like Sonjia's pleated folding, I just wish she would take that idea and go with it, instead of just only having like two pleats. It would've been absolutely amazing if she took the pleated detail and continued with it.
I don't know why, but I just really hate Melissa. She always seemed really fake to me somehow. It might be the blonde hair+gothic look that isn't working for me. I mean, if you're going to do a style, do it 100%
And even though I love high collars, I don't think that it's necessarily a *new* idea, and I agree with you on the colors. I think her doing color was so refreshing for the judges that they were blinded from the fact that her look was atrocious (though Heidi saw through this lol).
I always feel like they need more judges with sort of Heidi's taste, because some people get really fucked over by the fact that Nina and Michael doesn't like something, but Heidi does (see Mondo, though he did get a second change during All Stars)

Yes, the thing is, I felt so bad for sonjia. The gold fabric... when she got it, it was like, a bang in my head, saying "beautiful color combooo" but then the gold went missing >_o I do think her look would of worked, if she folded the green differently, and like the judges say get ride of the back.
Ahaha even though Melissa is "ok" in my terms, I dont really understand the gothic blondie thing. At all XD I guess she didnt want to go to crazy with her hair like Buffi (who I loved her hair and her clothes, but not so much the stuff she made, although she had a cool personality. ) and wanted to look more "professional". Which wouldnt make sense, because honestly, whaat? But whatever...
That is true... all soo true. The colors, it was so NOT melissa and so NEW from her, the judges definitely were blinded by it. But I have no idea how. There were so many things to look at, so many bright colors, and it was awful to look at. One of my least favorite looks from the entire season.
Heidi does have a great taste, sometimes I feel like shes the only one who knows what its about. But then theres other times, where I slightly disagree with her. Also, some guest judges, they were GREAT on telling their opinion, which might of been different from everyone else, but other guest judges seemed so passive and just tagged along with the other judges... you know what I mean?

and as for melissa, i do personally love designing in black and white because it's so easy, but that's the thing! it's *easy* i think it takes true skill to work with colors and prints and stuff, because it's so hard to keep it from looking tacky; and if you have an amazing taste level, you can make the tackiest of fabrics work and the craziest of prints to look sophisticated, and that's the sort of thing Melissa doesn't have (which is why Mondo wins such props in my book, as well as Christopher, how he manipulates prints is amazing!)
and def what you said about guest judges. i think Heidi has like more realistic standards, whereas Michael and Nina just look at things as like "oh this is in fashion now, i like it" whereas Heidi is more like "i think people would actually wear that in real life"

Yes! Thats it! And ohhh Mondo <3 I didnt see much of project runway before season 10, but omg that one episode made me cry ;_; The print was gorgeous too ...
But yeah, Melissa definitely DOESNT HAVE IT. I dont quite understand how she got this far, but i guess... I dont know.

And yes... Nina and Michael... I feel like they say the stuff they say to make it funny and not to make it actually practical. I mean, not in all circumstances, but def in a few...
And I dont get why the judges think they designers had "so much time". Um no. They had to create 10 looks in a month, where they also get distracted by family, friends, and lovers. That's not that much of a time. But they all did fairly well for their time budget. Untill...
they got back. 2 hours with 3 models and 10 looks. I dont understand at ALL on how Chris didnt get to see all of his looks and choose the best ones...

oh god, i want Dmitry to win, just because like you know that whatever he does, its going to be beautiful, well-tailored, and best of all, interesting without being overdonethough my pick never wins. ever. they're probably going to pick melissa just to spite me lol. you know this season is a really good season because like you *don't* know who's going to win.
and i cried too. season 8 made me cry like fifty times.
i think that in order to win project runway, you really have to design for the judges, like in all honesty. it's a lot about how you play the game.
as for chris, i think he definitely could have chosen the looks to represent his collection better, and not just choosing looks out of convenience.

I like them all, but honestly I realllyyyyy want Chris to win. But now im also leaning on Dmitry, because of his little story. Omigod, he worked so hard, moving to america when he was 18, and omg he deserves it. Chris is so young and so great even if he doesnt win he'll get somewhere. I mean, same with allll these people, but Dmitry and chris are defiently my choices.

And the roquette dress was absolutely genius. i was so happy because *finally* christopher showed us something new and unique. the only problem was the bottom was too stiff, so i hope they fix that in production.

I don't know how Elena is winning the "fan favorite" i mean she was just so mean and everything she did was a bit *too* avant garde. for the challenge where they had to design a dress to go with the Lord & Taylor Project Challenge, I personally thought her dress was really poor executed but the judges loved it. weird.

Do you ship anyone on the show? Everyone ships Chris and Gunnar which I think is sorta weirdddd but sorta makes sense... but since they're REAL people, I dont really care for the ships. Chris' boyfriend is so cute anyways, they're perfect already.
Chris is DYING to win fan favorite. I;ve been stalking him on twitter, he's having contests, and the fans are going CRAZY for voting for him. Yet, its barely making a difference really XD
