This is my submission for Loor101 's contest here: www.deviantart.com/loor101/jou…My merman's secret is that he's cursed to be a mercrocodile (like a werewolf, but for mermen). He tried to hide in a cave to avoid the light of the full moon transforming him, but the light and magic still caught him and he was forced to transform!
Wish I had dedicated more time to the animation, but I think the idea comes across.
