thanks that photo was an experiment--- i used a lot of charcoal in with the graphite... nice darks but it creates a lot of other problems that are hard to deal with..

it's possible to blend but many will tell you it's impossible.. I had to add tiny amounts of charcoal using a very very sharp charcoal pencil and then I would go over that with several layers of graphite... you have to be very patient and do that over and over and you can get a very dark look that's deep and beautiful
Merry Christmas-- I hope your stockings are filled with art supplies

thanks --- I alternate now between graphite and two color on grey. I'm enjoying the white and black but am not so bold yet with the white... many times I wait too long before I start the white and don't make full use of the grey as the midtone.
I looked up your tutorial but had trouble reading it as the resolution was pretty poor on my machine. '
thanks for looking at my gallery--- I'm just beginning

the way I work is kind of push and pull. As I work an area, I can always adjust my values. I gradually work up to the brightest white, but if the value relationships look wrong, and it gets too light, I will use a kneaded eraser to remove the white (or black) as needed.
sorry if it the tutorial was hard to read. I was thinking about making it a .pdf so people could view it one page at a time instead of 4 pages at once.

Stunning and moving!
When you talk about "value" are you referring to the degree of difference in light and dark? Relatively new to this world, am learning lingo (amongst many other things)!

Utter perfection. Great cropping, amazing execution, successful tones and values, and great textures = mind blowing.

wow this is absolutely beautiful!!
i dont think theres any wrong in doing a 'auto levels' just to get it to look like the actual drawing, coz usually a lot of depth is lost in photos.. anyway stunning work!!
