A quick sketch done for the monthly art contest on IDW's forums.The theme was to pick an existing character and give him the Matrix/Prime/Upgrade treatment. My character was Thundercracker (always my favorite seeker) with the following backstory.
All hail........ THUNDERUS PRIME!
When Megatron finally defeats Optimus Prime and barely lives to celebrate, Starscream takes the opportunity to finish off the Decepticon leader and assume command for himself. After taking the Matrix from Prime's corpse, he finds himself unable to use it but wears it around his neck as a trophy.
With Megatron no longer around to put fear in Thundercracker's heart, Thundercracker eventually finds his inner strength and stands between Starscream and some innocents he is about to murder. Thundercracker is as surprised as anyone when upon grabbing the Matrix as he grapples with Starscream, he is transformed by it's energies into a stronger frame capable of transforming into an F117 Nighthawk.
A new rivalry is established between the Autobot and Decepticon leadership as two former teammates become mortal enemies.
Only the future will determine whether the Autobots will learn to accept the leader that their fabled Matrix has chosen for them.

Can't believe I've only just found this... This is pure awesome! I'd love to see IDW do a comic series of some sort based on this idea. Thundercracker is great, I've always wanted to see him build up the courage to make a stand for what he's REALLY thinks or feels.

I do like the picture, but I admit that I have an ulterior motive for this comment. I just found chapter 13 from "Now for Something Completely Different on Fanficnet that follows that description almost perfectly. Since I didn't see the link in any of these other comments, I thought I'd perform a public service. Enjoy!

This is an idea based off of a scene at the end of *Transformers: The Animated Movie* where Galvatron (formerly Megatron) is unable to use the Matrix and wears it as a necklace, and he and Hot Rod duke it out until Roddy claims the Matrix from Galvatron and becomes Rodimus Prime. I figure Thunderus Prime would assume the Decepticon leadership after Megatron and Starscream, but that may not be possible. However, this is a brilliant piece of art. You da bomb!

Thundercracker is my absolute favorite character, and I'm delighted to see him given attention like this! I love your back story as well and am sorely tempted to try fleshing it out. (Probably won't, though -- it's yours, and besides I have enough on my plate...)

Thundercracker would make a good Autobot. A good Prime, now that will take time, especially the irony in becoming a Prime.
