“Who dafuq are you and why in the hell are you calling me at this god forsaken hour?” you groaned bitterly as you brought your phone up to your ear and looked at your alarm clock. 12:34 p.m.? How long were you sleeping?

”(Name)!! It’s me Haruhi!” your cousin answered, ”Listen I need to talk to you!” she cried. You furrowed your eyebrows in annoyance before angrily hanging up on Haruhi. You set your phone down on your nightstand and flopped back down on to your bed, closing your eyes.

RING RING RING

You snapped open an eye and glared at your ringing phone, debating on whether or not to pick up or leave it be. You decide on the latter and bury your head beneath your pillow. Thank God it was a Saturday. You allowed the phone to ring 6 more times before finally having enough of the damn thing. As soon as the phone rung for the 7th time you quickly grabbed the electronic contraption and brought it up to your ear.

“WHAT!?” you snapped.

”(Name)? I-It’s me, Kaoru,” the voice replied. You froze. Kaoru? What’s he calling for?

“What do you want?” you said bitterly, swinging your feet from your bed and standing up.

”Uh….Well….I just….” he stammered. You rolled your eyes and pulled out your rolling chair and sat down before rolling back to your desk. Hey, you were up. Might as well get some work done right?

“Yes?” you said impatiently.

”Uh……So, how’s the song coming along?” Kaoru said, a bit unsure. You sighed and stared at the blank piece of paper in front of you. ”…………(Name)?.......You still there?...”

“Yeah…..I’m still here…” you answered.

”You okay?” he asked. You smiled softly at his concern…………Concern, huh?

“I’m fine,”

”That’s good. So how’s the song? You figure out the lyrics yet?” You bit your lip.

“……No…..Not yet….” You mumbled, resting your chin on the palm of your hand,”……..It’s strange…..” you said.

”What is?”

“Usually these things just some easily to me….I’ve never really had this much trouble thinking up lyrics,” you replied.

“……W-would you like some help?” Kaoru asked nervously. You were silent for a bit. Help? You’ve never needed help before. You’ve always done these types of things by yourself. After all, it was much quicker that way than working with a partner, ”……………..(Name)?………..”

“…..I………” you started, “…….I……………………I’d like that very much….” you said. You could’ve sworn you heard gasps on the other end of the line.

”G-Great!! Uh, okay!” Kaoru said, surprised, ”S-so where should we meet up?”

“My place. 5:30. Ask Haruhi for directions,” you answered.

”Uh, right! I’ll see ya there!” he said. You smiled.

“Yeah….See ya….”

”Bye!!”

That was 5 hours ago and you were currently hanging out on your room’s balcony, looking out into the city as the sun slowly set, casting shadows and painting the sky colors of different orange and golden hues. You leaned against the black iron gate that kept from falling and closed your eyes, relishing in the feeling of the Sun’s last warm rays and awaiting for the cool feeling of the night. Your mind went back to the times you spent with your mother in your room as she tucked you into your bed and sang you lullabies.

(FLASHYBACK TIME!!!!!)

“There you are, (Name). All tucked in and ready for bed,” your mother said, brushing your check with the back of her hand as you lay in your bed, the moonlight bathing you and your mother in a pale, eerie yet heavenly light.

“Mommy?”

“Hm?”

“Can you tell me a story? And after, can you sing me a lullaby?” you said in a childish voice, your eyes pleading. Your mother chuckled.

“How about instead I sing you a story?” she said.

“Sing a story?”

“Mhm,” she replied, sitting on the edge of your bed, “Now listen closely. Once upon a time, long ago. There were two ponies. Both were sisters and rulers of a magical kingdom. One, the ruler of day and, the other, the ruler of night. (A;N: Anyone?) The elder pony sister, was bathed in love and adoration, because she brought up the day and, shone the warm rays of the sun upon the land. Everyone loved her. However, the younger sister, ruler of night, was never shown love and was long ignored. No one ever worshipped her lovely and beautiful moon and stars. No one ever stayed up to admire the beauty she brought to the other ponies during the night.

She began to feel rejected and thus she rose up in rebellion. She promised to bathe the land in eternal night, and never allow the sun to rise. Her elder sister, having no choice, fought and banished her younger sister to the moon, for a thousand years as punishment. For those thousand years, the elder sister ruled the land alone,” your mother said, before opening her mouth and allowing a melody to flow out. (Me no own Lullaby for a Princess. Fate has been cruel and order unkind
How can I have sent you away?
The blame was my own; the punishment, yours
The harmony's silent today

But into the stillness I'll bring you a song

Once did a pony who shone like the sun

And grew only darker as days and nights passed

Soon did that pony take notice that others
Did not give her sister her due
And neither had she loved her as she deserved
She watched as her sister's unhappiness grew

But such is the way of the limelight, it sweetly
Takes hold of the mind of its host
And that foolish pony did nothing to stop
The destruction of one who had needed her most

And rest now in moonlight's embrace
Bear up my lullaby, winds of the earth
Through cloud, and through sky, and through space

Your mother opened her eyes and gazed upon your sleepy form, your drowsy eyes returning her gaze.

“I feel sorry……” you mumbled.

“For what?” your mother asked, laying her hand on your forehead and brushing your hair.

“For the younger sister…..she *yawn*…..she was ignored…….and she was hurting…..” you said sadly, your eyes slowly closing.

“Yes….I know…..” your mother replied, kissing your forehead just as your eyes closed. Thinking you had fallen asleep, your mother rose from your bed and silently walked over to your room’s door, opening it.

“…Mommy?....” Your mother stopped and turned back to you.

“Yes, sweetheart?”

“Is there another part to the song?” Your mother smiled.

“Yes, there is,”

“Can………Can you sing me the other…..part?”

“Perhaps tomorrow. Goodnight, my sweet (Name),” she whispered walking out the door and closing it but, before hearing a,

“Night night……Mommy….”

(FLASHBACK OVER)

Tears fell down your cheeks and dripped down to the ground far below your balcony. You didn’t even hear the opening and closing of your bed room door. Nor did you hear the footsteps coming closer to you. You jumped as you felt a hand tap your shoulder and you quickly swiveled your head around. Only to come face to face with a certain golden eyed ginger.

“(Name)? Are you…….Are you crying?” Kaoru asked. Your eyes widened and furiously rubbed your eyes on your arm, wiping away the tears before stomping over to your balcony door.

“I-I'm fine!” you shouted, “It’s nothing!” Kaoru gave you a worried and sad look before following you into your room, and closing the door behind him. Cutting you two off from the outer and cruel….cruel world.
