Description Luke was the kind of guy that you had to stop and stare at when you first saw him. He had that innocent looking face paired with a mischievous smile that you couldn’t help but drink in. Bright blue eyes, the color of the sky on a cloudless day, enticed you. His mop of blonde hair that he’d taken to quiffing lately was always perfectly sculpted, with not a hair out of place. Yes, Luke Hemmings was the kind of guy you’d stop and stare at in the halls, and not because he was extremely tall. No, not that, but because something just drew you in, maybe it was the eyes, the smile, you didn’t know. Either way you were attracted to him, like a bee to flowers. Most girls were though, it was predictable. Luke had good looks and charm; his mother had raised him as all mothers should raise their sons: a gentleman. Even though he wore band shirts to school most every day and a solitary pair, it appeared, of ripped skinny jeans, he still managed to get the most popular girls in school. Cheerleader after cheerleader, it seemed, broke his heart by cheating on his poor, naïve soul. You admired Luke from afar, well, afar being across the table in English class, and in the halls. He never really talked to you, and when he did it was rushed, few-worded questions and answers. You were both shy, semi-awkward individuals with a track record for stumbling over presentations in class. It was weird to you how he was so quiet in class but he still managed to get girlfriends and put up YouTube videos of him and his band performing. Oh yes, Luke was in a band, a good band, and they call themselves 5 Seconds of Summer. You had watched said videos of him and his three band mates, and their music were great. Luke was the lead singer and he played the guitar, both very well. His voice was like melted chocolate, smooth, warm and rich. He had a seemingly impossible range of notes that he could hit for a 17-year-old boy. You could listen to it all day. He also seemed to become a different person on the stage, almost polar opposite to the boy who sat across from you in English. He was confident, flirty, and excited. His shyness disappeared, almost as if it wasn’t ever there. You could tell that the stage is where Luke was meant to be, he was born to perform. But you kept your knowledge of his band, and the fact that you really liked it, to yourself. You weren’t the kind of girl to throw yourself into a conversation with someone you’ve barely spoken to about his band. So you sat by and watched as Luke and his band took off, sky rocketing to success almost overnight. You watched as Luke dropped out of school to go with his band on a world tour with One Direction. You remained in your town, working on getting your grades up and graduating. You watched as Luke began working with different artists on an album. You graduated and moved on to Uni. And when he returned for a performance near your hometown, you mysteriously received tickets in the mail for the front row. You went, standing front row center, right in front of Luke’s microphone. When they began their set, you couldn’t tear your eyes away from him. He had changed, in the past 7 or so months he had been gone. He was taller, if that was possible, and he definitely had gotten more muscular since the tour started. He was confident Luke again, singing with his melted chocolate voice. You were you, standing with one arm plastered to your side, the other gripping it fiercely and watching Luke from afar, or not so afar since he was about 5 feet from you. Then, something unexpected happened. As you stood there, one arm crossing your body, shielding you. As you listened to Luke and his band play their beautiful music, mouthing the words as the girls on either side of you screamed. As 5 Seconds of Summer played the bridge to Try Hard and you watched Luke, he bent down and looked right at you.
“But now, who knew? She's in the crowd of my show. Nothing to lose, she's standing right in the front row. The perfect view, she came alone on her own, and there's something that you should know.
You're so out of reach, and I'm finding it hard 'cause you make me feel, you make me feel, yeah she makes me feel, she makes me feel. It’s obvious, she's so out of reach, and I'm finding it hard 'cause she makes me feel, makes me feel, like I try, like I try, like I'm trying too hard. 'Cause I'm not being me, and it's getting me down that she makes me think, makes me think, that I try, that I try, that I'm trying too hard again. 'Cause I'm trying too hard again, 'cause I'm trying too hard again.” You froze as those cloudless-sky-colored eyes connected with yours and he nodded at you. He was singing to you. The boy you had admired from afar for almost a year now had just sung to you, a verse that was romantic. The girls next to you were in your ear now with prying questions as to who you were and why Luke was singing to you. Your heart was pounding and blood rushed to your face. Luke, the boy who you had sat across from in English before he got famous, the boy who you remember for rushed conversations and getting his heart broken by cheerleaders, the boy you’d been in love with for the past year. You didn’t know what to do, Luke was finishing his set and the girls were still harping at you, so you ran. Up the aisle and stairs and out into the night. You collapsed on a bench around the corner of the building, so no one would see you. You pulled your knees to your chest and placed your head on them, taking deep breaths. Minutes passed and all you could think was Luke Hemmings just sang to me and I can’t breathe.
“You ok?” A deep voice asked, you looked up to see Luke, freshly off stage and sweaty.
“Uh, I think so, I just didn’t…” You stuttered and stumbled over the words, the sheer presence of the boy you hadn’t seen in 7 months making you forget how to speak logically.
“Didn’t expect me to sing to you?” He finished your sentence for you, you nodded and he reached up to rub the back of his neck, “Sorry, I just haven’t been able to get you off my mind since I left.” You felt your heart rate increase even more.
“I-I, me? Why me?” You manage to get out, the boy had barely spoken to you when he’d been here, plus, he’d had plenty of prettier, cheerleader girlfriends that should be much more memorable than you.
“Because you drew me in, ever since we were sat across from each other in English. I liked how you would get so into the books we read, the way your brow would furrow when you read something you didn’t particularly like, the way your eyes would light up when you read something you did. I liked the way you looked so tranquil while you sat in class, like nothing could disturb you. I liked the way you stood while giving presentations, with one arm crossed over your body holding the other, like you did tonight. And I just liked everything about you, I just never said. I never got up the nerve to until tonight, because I’ve been waiting over 7 months to say it.” You were stunned, not once had you ever considered Luke might like you back.
“Me, out of all those girls out there, you couldn’t stop thinking about…me?” You asked, looking up at him.
“You.” He replied firmly.
“I-I couldn’t stop thinking about you either.” You told him the truth; he smiled one of his huge, dimpled smiles at you. Before you can say anything else his lips are on yours and he’s kissing you and your hands have somehow tangled themselves in his hair and his are pulling you closer to him. When you finally break apart you are breathless and stunned.
“So do you want to go back inside?” Luke asked after a minute. You don’t, you want to stay out here and kiss him again and again until your lips fall off. So you take a leap of bravery.
“O-or we could kiss again.” You say, internally cursing your stuttering. It’s his fault your brain is melting. He just laughs at you and leans in again for another kiss.
