Description
This is art by my 13-year-old son. His dream is to be a animation artist. I think he may be well on his way! What do you think!? He is miles and miles ahead of where I was at 13!
Love watching young artists grow! Thought it would be fun to share some of my kid's work.
My oldest daughter has an account on DA. She is my writer, but I don't know if I will ever convince her to post any of it. But, she is VERY good!

Convincing your daughter to share her writing is one of those things I think she can only do herself.Β Sharing writing is not easy as one can feel embarrassed, or even afraid, and though it can be a difficult thing to do, it can also be very rewarding as writing is one of those things you can really improve on by sharing your work and receiving critiques or help.Β It's just that making the leap is difficult, and even after the first step, I know that a LOT of writers here on dA are still having to make more mini leaps when uploading stories or writing they might feel is not up to par or they're uncertain about, but in the end it really does help - you just have to be prepared to hear things you may not want to, but to understand that it's not a personal attack, only someone trying to help (first critiques are often very very difficult to accept and a lot of aspiring writers here on dA, even the older ones, sometimes make the mistake of letting that discourage them)

You are definitely right. There is something about sharing writing that I think goes much deeper than art. The leap is not easy. I hope she will someday, like you said, for the fact that it helps to have other people view and critique with your writing. Sometimes things aren't obvious until someone points them out. You can learn a lot of you don't take it personally. Was it hard for you to post? Is it still? She is one of your watchers now. She still is a huge fan and has your work posted on the wall in her room.

Yeah! Oh my gosh I used to love it when he put the dog's skin in a sandwich and bit it, just because of the noise his teeth made - also Ren and Stimpey (my mum never let us watch that!)
True, I mean art, you can only really be critiqued about the technical aspects, but with writing, the idea is also up for attack, or characters, oh gosh, characters, when people attack those without reason it can make you wonder if you need to change them (but usually it's just because people dislike their motives)
Yes exactly! I mean you (as in, the writer) are set in a specific way and can't see if it needs changing, or if it's working as intended, so you need someone to help you along by telling you if things work or if they're not. So if she ever does choose to upload, I suggest adding questions to readers she'd like answered - it also helps them help you iron out things you may not feel so confident about.
Yes lol, it was hard, considering I have a few really good writers following me, or whom I watch, and then there's a chance of them reading it and seeing how awful I am in comparison - I still feel that way! With specific work (actually recently with all my writing I've been caught up in the vicious cycle of 'I need to edit this to make it good, keep editing, must edit more!' and then it takes forever and the end result is nerve-wracking waiting for feedback on.

Eww! Yes, that sound! Hahaha! I loved that cartoon. The song! I will never forget it! My son actually has never watched Ren and Stimpey, and I haven't either, that I can remember. Guessing it must be a bad show? I don't even know! Haha! But, he has always loved the character design of them. One of his inspirations.
That is a good idea! If she has questions to be answered it also might be easier to hear people's thoughts. It sure would help to have some pointers from others.
Haha! I suppose it is something you never really fully get past. But, to me, you are one of those really good writers. The ones, I might be worried about reading MY work! Lol!

Aww I'm so glad!Β In my experience as an artist (and really any blooming hobby) the best feeling was when someone enjoyed my work and encouraged me to keep doing it.Β It really kills your spirit to feel ignored or like your stuff isn't good enough.Β So he is very welcome!!Β Haha aww that sounds familiar (distant stare into the past).Β It's good that he puts his other studies at high priority too

Writing is a good thing to be good at! Really it is just another form of art. Instead of using color and lines, you paint pictures with words. I would love it if you could read her work. I need to see if I can sneak some! Haha! She is too self-conscious to post. Hopefully someday!

Use a chainsaw. It always scares my kids into doing whatever I want. Unless they get to it first. Then it's a bit more difficult. But I still have most of my limbs.
