Description Encounter with the great grizzlies at close range.

This mother bear came out of the mountains with its cubs (hiding behind) in early dawn to feed on the grasses and flowers. I was apprehensive at first, but slowly crept forward, taking care not to intrude upon their comfort zone until they were fully in full range.

I'm not sure, but I don't think so
Maybe they do that to all the bears, just to keep track?

Whoa, you have to keep a lookout for its mom. She's not going to be very happy and can get ferocious if she finds someone between her cub and her

It's the second time i get the feeling my safety is at risk when strolling out in the woods all by myself .
I notice a sort of mark on its right ear, would it be a tagged or numbered bear?
Wonderful take, what you risk to share your passion is so inspirational.

You did extremely well. My girlfriend and I encountered a trio of black bears while visiting Glacier NP this summer. They were within 40-50 feet. We were both too freaked out to consider anything involving our cameras!

gnohz In reply to greglief [2011-12-15 07:22:45 +0000 UTC]

Awww what a pity! But I think black bears are not as ferocious as grizzlies. For this, I guess I was less than 30 feet away. Lucky I was not eaten

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

greglief In reply to gnohz [2011-12-15 19:22:10 +0000 UTC]

You were indeed very fortunate! And yes, black bears are nowhere near as ferocious/dangerous as grizzlies.

gnohz In reply to greglief [2011-12-16 03:57:03 +0000 UTC]

And on top of that, we were also very fortunate to catch sight of both black and brown bears on our trip! As I'm from the other side of the world, we don't get to see these creatures that often
