Description

Burcu heralds from one of the numerous desert-dwelling tribes in the nation of Hindia. She joined the crew of the HMAS Loftwing early on, several years before Byron took over as captain.

Despite their presence within the purview of the Empire, Burcu’s tribe was quite religious, albeit rather abstractly—it is because of her peoples’ philosophy that she always wears her robes and veil. Before joining the crew, she herself was revered as an oracle amongst her people.

Personality: Burcu is the spiritual heart of the Loftwing crew. She is kind, and caring, and truly devoted to helping those around her. Her almost naïve ability to see the goodness in people occasionally finds her the butt of some good-natured ripping from her fellow crew; she doesn’t have much in the way of a sense of humor, but is generally able to differentiate between a joke (even an offensive one) and not—so she takes it all in stride. Despite her strong devotion to her craft, she is not presumptuous or pretentious, and feels no need to push her positive outlook on others. As such, Burcu is rather quiet and introverted, and generally doesn’t speak unless spoken to, but when she does speak, she is very polite and courteous. It is because of her welcoming nature that she is largely in charge of hospitality on the Loftwing.

Duties: Medic, hospitality (when the Loftwing takes on passengers)

In Combat: When in combat, the enigmatic force that allows Burcu her divine abilities reveals its darker side; in conflict, she speaks in tongues, only able to speak—and more importantly, understand—two dead languages. While the majority of her crew do not comprehend these languages, Neville’s extensive understanding of languages can often ascertain her meaning, if he is present. Burcu is aware of this fact, and will often look to him to interpret should the need arise. No one, including Burcu, really understands the origins of this malady, nor from whence these languages originate.

Nevertheless, while she can’t usually understand the words when somebody calls out for healing, she still knows what “screaming in agony” sounds like.
