Description I've been wanting to do a series of illustrations, and so I finally started today when I saw a beautiful cardinal outside my window. The rest of these are birds that I've seen from my window here in Hawaii.
I can't wait to do more!

QUICK CONTEST! The first person who can identify each of the birds will get a drawing of the bird of their choice in this style!!
Your answers have got be specific, not just "long necked white bird". I've already given away the cardinal (easiest one) so go for it!! As a hint, they can all be found in Hawaii.

One's an egret.

By the way, which ones are indigenous?

I love the traditional art like style Looks a bit like chalk to me, I really like it that the strokes are visible. You chose the background colours very well and their shapes are nice because they're simple so they add something extra but do not distract

Woohoo you got em!! The egret was supposed to be a cattle egret but they're pretty much the same

And my goodness, I just looked at your watercolor fishes and they are brilliant!! Must go fav...

Thank you so much! And what kind of bird would you like me to draw for you?

SurfTiki In reply to Gnuchi [2012-04-21 18:50:18 +0000 UTC]

Ah, i was close.
Thanks im glad i got them all right or very close.

Glad you enjoyed my fish.

Well id love to see some Honeycreepers, thier the funny beaked ones with a down or up sweep to them. Just a suggestion as thier so cool and extermely rare, only in Hawaii.

But in all honesty i did enter to win, id give that prize to the person before me as they were very close, they would probily enjoy the chance to have you do something for them.

Quick question, when i lived on the big island on the puna side i dont rember the Java Sparrow...are they on a certian island or a new thing thats showed up?

Gnuchi In reply to SurfTiki [2012-04-25 06:22:57 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I'm definitely going to do some Honeycreepers, I think they're so beautiful.

I'm not sure about the Java Sparrows... I live on Oahu and I've seen them everywhere. And I have no idea when they showed up, I just remember them being my favorite bird since I was a kid since they kinda look like killer whales

SurfTiki In reply to Gnuchi [2012-04-25 08:42:26 +0000 UTC]

Ah, yes id say try as many of them as you can, i like the up billed onces the most as thier very rare and very specialized.

Yeah i dont rember any on the Big Island where i was born and rasied, we had most of the others but not them from what i rember. Oh and my friend said you must do a Nene Goose at some point as well.
Hope to see many of them Hawaiian birds from you and i should do more fish...i havent done one in almost a year now....

Gnuchi In reply to SurfTiki [2012-04-29 17:02:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah definitely will do a Nene Goose! And you should definitely do more fish, I would be delighted to see them.
