This was my summer-inspired piece that I've been working on sporadically over the past couple of months! I got into a bad art slump for a while wasn't doing anything right (in my eyes) and this helped to get me back in the groove. Mermaids always seem to help...I put the finishing touches on it today, and now I can finally finish the kiribans that I owe people!!
The whole summer I've been in a really tropical sort of mood, partially because it's the first summer I've spent at home in Hawaii in a couple of years. So I've been soaking up the sun and reading cheesy teen tropical romance novels! Now that it's Autumn (my favorite season), I have another piece that is almost finished and will celebrate it!
I wanted this piece to feel really clean and fun, so instead of making the sea filled with coral and seaweed, I just wanted it to be sand, sun, and water, much like the beaches are near where I live, and much like the beaches at the Whitsunday Islands in Australia (my other favorite beaches). I just love the idea of the fish making music like in The Little Mermaid!

Wonderful! This has such a feeling of light-heartedness and glee. I love the detail on the tail, the fish and the strap around her breasts. Her tail fin is excellent, looking like a veil and looking like a fin at the same time. The colors are jubilant. You have a real talent for making things look light-hearted and silly yet realistic all at once.
