I can understand the frustrations about not having many of the old doctor's or companions in the 50th anniversary episode, but as it has been pointed out before, it would be difficult to include them because many of them look nothing like they did when they were the Doctor, (I mean look at Colin baker, he couldn't pull of the 6th Doctor anymore no disrespect.) I am a fan of the classic series myself, but I feel as though other classic who fans don't give the rebooted series the respect it deserves.I am however very happy about the way Moffat incorporated every Doctor into the story so that they were there with a purpose (to save Gallifrey) instead of just being there just to be there. Yes I agree that it was mostly focused on the last 9 years, but I'm totally okay with that. I have admittedly been a little disappointed with the last season of Doctor Who, but I was very pleased with the 50th Anniversary Episode. If you pay attention, you can notice that there are nods to the classic series littered all throughout the episode. Such as in the very beginning, the episode starts out like An Unearthly Child, with the policeman walking past the Totters Lane sign, and Clara now working as a teacher in the same school that Susan Foreman attended. Also when 10 and 11 "reverse the polarity". Then there was the vault filled with information on all his past companions, the character Osgood with the scarf, not to mention the appearance of Tom Baker as the great curator. As for Tennant coming back, I don't see what the issue is, Tennant was a Brilliant Doctor (my favorite in fact) and I didn't mind the scenes with him and Queen Elizabeth either especially since they were done in a humorous fashion. As for Rose, she wasn't even Rose, she was an interface for "the moment". It was quite brilliant. Moffat had a huge job to shoulder making a good story and pack in 50 years worth of stuff. So I don't see the problem.
sorry about the rant, hope I didn't come off as rude.

I did this comic about a week before the 50'th even was aired. Remember that.
And you can't really say that "the actors can't be in it because they're too old" anymore (which in itself is just insulting) because they included Tom Baker. Very fucking nice too may I add. They could just as much reduce some of the long, boring, "dramatic" moments (that were far too many) and do something similar with the others. And there was no reason to not include old companions in some way (and not just on a stupid piece of board in the background) since they are allowed to age.
I felt that everything classic that was there was there only because Moffat knew he would be so hated if he didn't include anything. If he could he would probably do the whole thing without anything classic in it at all. It all felt out of place and just thrown in.
Even on it's own, I didn't like it. I wont say here what I felt about it because it would take forever to name everything, but I felt it was cheap, boring, had a lot of plotholes, the characters were OOC, a bit sexist, etc etc. I just didn't like it.
I still don't feel this was worth as a 50's special at all. This could've just as easy been another christmas-special with some special features glued on. I thank the gods for Big Finish and Mark Gatiss who know how to celebrate 50 years as you should

I am not too hopeful. Partly because I don't want to be disappointed again (as I was when I heard the news, I cried like a baby), and partly because some of the actors really seem heartbroken to the max. Colin and McCoy where dead serious while talking about it. Colin even said "If I told you my lips were sealed you'd know that I was in it, but my lips are not sealed and I'm not in it".

I agree with you. As you said, a lot of the new fans haven't seen the classic Doctor Who episodes, but that didn't stop them when they made The Three Doctors, The Five Doctors and The Two Doctors. It made the old fans happy, and the new fans got to learn more about their favourite show, and maybe even be inspired to track down and watch some of the older episodes. Perhaps they would have found a new favourite Doctor. The ninth Doctor was my first, and I really enjoyed watching the tenth and eleventh Doctor, but the second and fourth Doctor still holds the first place in my top 5 list. I loved learning about the old Doctors, and the history about his home planet. When they restarted the show with the ninth, we (the new fans), were told in the first episode I think it was, that his home planet was gone, so it was really exciting to learn about how he had visited it before, how he had left because he was a rebellion and not because his planet exploded. And learning about the war with the daleks and how he was the one who destroyed his own home planet, it gave the show much more depth, and it made me see the Doctor for a different light. He makes bad decisions, he has bad days, he can let his emotions get the better of him, it made him an even more interesting and believable character.
So yeah, I don't get why Moffat has to only keep to the newer Doctors. The show has many fans, give the older once a chance to see their first Doctor again as well. I would have loved to see Tom Baker back in his role as The Fourth Doctor. Celebrate the show, and when you do, include the WHOLE show, because the old episodes is what helped made the new once. Don't just keep to the "modern" once, because they might never had happen in the first place if it wasn't for the old show, and you're missing so much of what made the show what it is today when you just care about the young and hip Doctors. When you celebrate Doctor Who, celebrate the whole thing, because its part of the show and it's part of what made Doctor Who Doctor Who. So include the old stuff, give them some well deserved credit for their hard work! This isn't just about the new show! This is a 50 years anniversary, INCLUDE the 50 years!
And Moffat has to make everything so complicated. All his episodes are full of plot twists, unexpected turns, and hints that won't come into play until several episodes later. He even went against his own words sometimes. For eks. in the episode when The 11th talkes to The Tardis (trapped inside a female body), she said she stole a Time Lord because she too wanted to see the universe when The Doctor says he choose her because the door to her Tardis were open. Then, in this season's last episode, it's suddenly Oswall that tells The 1st Doctor which Tardis to pick. Pluss, I'm getting tired of Moffat's need to make every companion love the doctor (with the exception of Donna and Oswall, but then again Oswall had the whole "I was born to save The Doctor stuff") and making every companion special. The Doctor chooses them because they're special and they end up doing some amazing stuff at the end, or suddenly becoming really important to the whole storyline. I miss the time when The Doctor choose him companions because he just liked humans, and enjoyed having them around for company. They could end up doing important and amazing stuff, and they would grow and learn from being with him, but there was never any "There's something different with you, you're not like the others. Come on, I have to find out what it is so you have to travel with me for a while", and there was never any, or much rearer, "But I love him" stuff whenever he got a new companion. His old companions were just like us, normal human beings that we, the watchers, could identify with, but now we have "the girl who waited, had a crush on him and tried to sleep with him, only to end up becoming his mother in law", "the girl who was born to save him" and "the girl who travels back in time, is his wife and his companion's daughter". It seems like he has this need to make every episode so big and important, just to show that he can, instead of doing it every now and then, and that way make it more impressive when it happens. That's why I love Tennant's Water on Mars episode, because we've seen him as the fun, happy person he is for a while, and then when he breaks under pressure and become possessed with saving the people whose death is a fixed moment in time, it becomes more intriguing, not even it happens all the time in every episode, then the excitement of seeing the darker side of The Doctor disappears. I just hope the 50 anniversary won't be to complicated and full of important/secret stuff that we get to learn more about much later.
Sorry for the rant But those are my feelings about the whole thing

100% yes!
I dislike Moffats era more and more. I started watching Doctor Who in late April this year, starting with the first doctor and the very first episode. I was enjoying everything and was sort of longing to the new series because of all the good stuff I've heard about it. Along the way I got a favourite doctor, my first OTP, I cried, I laughed, I loved the show. When the 9'th Doctor came I was a bit disappointed. The adventures were very good and the story was good, but I never enjoyed Eccleston as the Doctor (plus, I hate Rose). So when Tennant came, I was hyped. And here, I wasn't disappointed. When Rose disappeared, the show became fantastic again. The stories were wonderful and Tennant wasn't as annoying anymore. I did dislike Martha's love for the Doctor though, but since he didn't love her back I guess that didn't bother me as much as it could've done. Donna, however, was amazing! I really loved her. Tennants last episodes were two of the saddest I've seen, and I cried a whole lot. Not during his regeneration however, because I felt like it was time for a new Doctor (and even though he's amazing, he wasn't a favourite either). And then came Matt (and Moffat) and just screwed everything up.
I didn't dislike Amy as much as I thought I would've done, but I still did. She just felt like she was in the way, and that anyone of the previous Doctors would've easily just saved her and then said "bye bye" and left. Rory's death count is ridiculous, I didn't think it was sad any single time because I knew that he would come back, and their death in the end was a big fuckin' relief. I also thought the Doctor was very OOC many times, which is weird to say considered that each Doctor is different from one another, but 11 was extreme. He was sexist, didn't trust his companions, over the top and sometimes just creepy. Not Matt's fault, he did as good as he could. I just wish he's character would have been written most mystical and calm, like the old time lord he is. I thought he was going to be a bit more like a mix between the second and fourth Doctor, since every picture and gif I saw of him before hand reminded me of those. But he became more like an extreme twisted and depressed 2, and that's just sad.

I myself really loved Eccleston as the 9th ^^
I think his version of The Doctor fits considering what he had just done (destroying his home planet). That is bound to leave a mark in some way.
But I agree with you on Rose, I never really liked her either. I just found her to be in the way, at least when she was no longer his only companion,
and I felt like she overstayed her welcome, but even before that, she got on my nerves. I think I actually didn't start disliking her until David took over the role.
I felt that she was always crying and being depressed and saying that The Doctor left and betrayed her, even when 1/3 of all the people on earth are affected by something
unknown. Also, when she finds out that she isn't the first person The Doctor has travelled with, she seems very disappointed. He's a Time Lord who's over 900 years old and can travel in time.
She knows this. Yet she's still unhappy when she finds out that she isn't his first companion. It never accrued to her that during all his travels in space and time, he might have meet and
travelled with other people or aliens earlier in his life?
Another thing is that annoyed me was that they always found a way to bring her back, even during Donna and Martha's time as companions, robbing a bit of the spotlight from them. A lot of Martha's time as
The Doctor's companion was spend with The Doctor talking about Rose. She never got a chance to fully become her companion like all the others, or at least that's what I think.
I do get that The Doctor and Rose was in love, but I found it funny how he didn't mention Rose at all to Donna, not even in the Turn Left episode (if I remember correctly), then start talking
a lot about her when Martha enters his life, and then he's back to his old self after Martha leaves and Donna comes back. It just seems odd. And Rose had some of the more friendlier endings as
a companion. Now of course a clone isn't going to be like the real thing, it's a clone, but she had a much more happy ending then Donna, who had to forget all about The Doctor and their adventures.
And, as I already said, Rose got to come back, or just appear in the background, several times. I felt like her story would never end even when she was no longer his companion. Plus, I found the whole
"This is the story of how I died" speech at the beginning of her last episode as his companion a bit over the top when she didn't actually die. I actually felt a bit sorry for Martha since Rose would
always pop up, either in the background, or in a conversation. I found Martha to be a strong, clever, brave and independent woman, who actually listened to The Doctor, unlike so many others
But then all the focus is on Rose, and how she's the Bad Wolf, another thing that I never really liked, except it brought Jack back and gave us Torchwood Now you're right about Martha having a "I love him" theme
going for her, but I think that was only mentioned once, although I could be wrong, and she did end up moving on and marring someone else, so I have a easier time looking over that then in Rose's case.
I remember I was sad when David handed the role over to Matt, I didn't cried, but I did complain a bit, since I had grown to really like him as The Doctor But Matt's first scene at the end of David's last episode
made me curious, and his first episode The 11th Hour is now one of my favourite episodes of all time I really liked Amy too in that episode, and I never felt like she became a bad character, she's still one of my fav
companions, but as we got longer and longer into the season, the episodes focused more and more on her, leaving poor Rory in the background(Just like Mickey in the whole Rose and The Doctor stuff). There was several episodes
where Amy was the important one, but I can only remember 2-3, maybe 4 moments where Rory got to shine and be bad ass. And you're right, Rory's death count is ridiculous. The first time it happened they did a good job, but after
the 4th-5th time(I'm just guessing here as I have lost count over how many times it actually happened), you sort of almost expected it, and either just got annoyed, or took it for granted. I'm just happy it ended with them dying together
when Amy let the weeping angle take her after it had taken Rory. To tell the truth, I don't remember the 11th being sexist, distrustful or creepy, and I'm probably going to sound really old when I ask this, but what does OOC mean?
The only time I remember not liking The 11th is in Oswald's first episode, where he just sits on top of a cloud and refuse to do anything to help anyone, and even when he finally does, it's the lizard alien woman who has to
convince him to do something. The only thing I liked about that episode was the lizard woman, her girlfriend and that other alien, which I can't remember the name on at the moment. Now it was the episode after he lost Amy and Rory,
but the Doctor has lost companions before, heck, some of them has even died (once and stayed dead I mean), but even then he never stopped helping others. That's how I see it anyway.

Ah, I see Thanks for explaining.
Speaking on companions, I wonder who will be the 12th Doctor's companion. Let's hope we get one this time
who doesn't end up falling in love with him. Come to think of it, it's being a long time since The Doctor has
travelled with a man who doesn't just happen to be the husband/boyfriend the woman companion. And
speaking of Doctors, I wonder how Moffat is going to explain John Hurt's Doctor. I heard rumors that he's suppose
to be a Doctor The Doctor himself doesn't remember, so that 9th is actually 10th, 10th is 11th, 11th is 12th, and so on,
but I really hope that's not true. An anniversary seems like a bad time to introduce a new mystic Doctor, when they should
be focusing on the old once. Now this has been done before, and done well. 10th has a Christmas special were he met
someone who said he was The Doctor, but it had a believable story, and as it turned out, he wasn't The Doctor, just a man
who had The Doctor's memories printed into his mind. Now John could end up being a good Doctor and bring something new to
the table. I have nothing against the man and he could end up being great for the part, but I fear Moffat will ruin some of the
story line (from the classics all the way up to now) or either go back on his own words again or change what we have been
told and learned in order to fit John in. It can end up doing the show more harm then good. Hopefully they'll find some good way
to explain it, but I do fear for the show. The whole thing could end up just confusing the fans. Hopefully John will have a good time
never the less, even if he is The Doctor for just one episode.

I really hope for a male companion again. Mickey and Rory don't count, they were there because their girlfriends were there. Or some alien, I miss K-9 and Nyssa. I also longer for some ancient or future companions, not just ones from nowadays. Someone from 2200 would be nice, or medieval. I also have a deep strong longing for Frazer/Jamie to come back, simply because he want it so badly, probably since he left in the first place in -69. Poor guy Another nice twist would be someone with a problem that they have to solve or deal with as they come with the Doctor, like depression, autism or OCD, just to bring more life into the companions and make the Doctor perhaps more involved with the more complex human. Or hell, why not a deaf companion? That would be awesome!
I actually don't mind if Hurt is one of the Doctors (or, one of him, since he apparently isn't allowed to be called "The Doctor") but that makes Capaldi the 12'th. Which means that we have only one Doctor left before he can't regenerate further (but I guess Moffat will fuck that up too someday).

A deaf companion would have been interesting to see,
or perhaps one that's mute.
I actually hope Moffat or someone else will find a way around
the "Regenerate 12 times before they die" rule, simply because
I still love the show very much, and they do manage to still make
some really good episodes, and it's rumoured that Capaldi will
only be the Doctor for 13 episodes (1 season), just like Eccleston,
so we'll end up with our last Doctor very quickly if that's true.

Well, there are still a bunch of other specials that are coming/ have came that are about the entirety of Doctor Who and not just the reboot. But understand that a lot of people haven't been able to see the classic Doctors. The newer Doctors and companions are ones that everybody knows and will make things slightly less confusing. And I know that everybody seems to, no, straight out dislikes Moffat, but people are starting to go a bit over board with it.

It doesn't really matter if the new fans have seen the classic or not, because it's not about them, it's about the show. The whole show. Every celebration they have done before (10 years, 20 years, 30 years, etc.) have had many (or everyone) of the Doctors in one or many cameos. It's about celebrating every last one of them, especially the eldery ones. And I'm not only talking about the actors, I mean the writers too. Showing some respect and/or connections to the old is a great way to say "we love this show, thank you so much for making this happen", because without them there wouldn't be a show today. Now it's more like "meh, screw them, we're hip and new and have cool special effects!" to me. Also, connections to the Classic can be a great way to introduce new fans to the classic era.
I really loved Moffat before. I am crazy about BBC's Sherlock, and he helped with the Tintin-movie. But I really dislike what he have done to Doctor Who. At first I was pretty okay with it, but it really went straight to hell when I heard what he said about classic Who. And I'm sorry, but I really can't get over that so many, so many old companions and Doctors wanted to be in it (to name a few; Carole Ann Ford, Frazer Hines, Sylvester Mccoy, Paul McGann, Colin Baker, Sophie Aldred) and he didn't even ask them. If he actually asked them and they said "no" then fine, but no, he didn't. He didn't even think about asking them. He did ask Eccleston though, and he said no, which I just find hilarious. I have many reasons for disliking the man, I never hate without a purpose.
And don't worry, you didn't come off as rude Actually you're a lot nicer than most fans I've talked too (especially crazy Rose-fans who want me dead for disliking Rose).

True. There are great connections to the classic era sprinkled throughout Doctor Who though still. They're little Easter eggs hidden within the show. I agree that Moffat could be more curteous to the classic actors, writers, and crew. But it seems that Mark Gatiss is the one to do the classic who.
Sherlock is amazing. I like his scripts, but he can be rather cold-hearted when talking about others' work.
The more I think of it the more I think that the actual 50th episode is more about closure than it actually being 50 years of Doctor Who. All of the other specials are for the actual idea of it being 50 years of a brilliant show. That's why I think of the Day of the Doctor isn't the the 'thank you', everything else is. That's probably why I find it okay for only new Doctors to be in the actual episode. The real 50th anniversary specials have their own room while Moffat saunters around like a spoiled child. I definitely understand your reasoning and I definitely can not say you weren't persuasive.
Thank goodness, I'm so glad that I didn't seem rude. I don't want to be that person everybody hates because they don't respect other people's opinions (a.k.a. Moffat.) And don't worry, I won't get mad at you about Rose unless you outright say you hate her right in front of my face. I have learned that a lot of people don't like her and yet lot of people do. So I try my best to respect others opinions.

It does annoy me that all those people have stated their interest and he doesn't contact them, Heck, William Russell and Carole Ann Ford are appearing as cameo roles in An Adventure in Space and Time for the making of Doctor Who, so it's not too much of a stretch.
