Hallo again, my love. I’ve been thinking a lot about recovery lately. It’s a bit interesting how easy it is to fall into a vicious cycle. How after so many defeats, you begin to think that it is what you deserve. That this is how it is. You’re unworthy of the bare basics; emotional depth, tenderness, understanding, and there isn’t anything to be done about it.

When we met, I never once anticipated that someone would understand my plight. That someone would know the forlorn rush and ebb as it eroded my very bones. But I soon came to see my pain in you, and that frightened me. I saw a soul that was as tired as mine. As bruised as mine. As lost as mine. I grew to know you, and after time, was unwilling to let you endure the same aches as I knew alone. Self loathing evolved into compassion, and for you I became a pillar that refused to crack.

Confiding in each other, whispering our woes under the heavy cover of night, we began to heal. We cut the chains, wiped the dirt from our brows, pulled each other to our feet, and set on. There were missteps along the road, but with each pitfall we became stronger together. Our scars may still show under the scuffs, but we no longer spend the frostbitten winters licking wounds alone. I will protect you with my heart, support you with my soul, and snap my teeth into those that intend you harm. I adore you, my love. I love you.
