Further venturing into my AI exploration ( if you haven't read it already, read AI, be my slave : pt 1Ai, be my SlaveAI is a fickle and special slave.The analogy may sound unusual but here's this : Just like a little slave, it's capable of the most creative and wonderful things and be plain disobedient and annoying at times.So. I've decided to make sure that AI would be behave the way I intended it to. Here's my story so far.AI, That fickle, creative slaveLike everyone, I had heard about AI and seen the pictures.There was something magical and frightening about it.Truly magical.Truly frightening.Then I realized that I didn't knew anything about the actual process of creating these images, and that this instintive fear of a changing world ( and I mean it : we all felt that ) made no sense. So I did what I always do under these circumstances : embrace the change! Or to the very least, learn, and try to understand it.Before going further though, I'd like to share a few words about AI and all the talk around it. During this creative journey, I've wondered why I was investing my time and creativity into all this technical stuff again ( I'm looking at you DAZ, blender ). Well : - As a creator, I always want to improve and create better creations. - I want to understand things by learning and doing them, always.- I want to initiate a dialog with you all about what this tool is and what it isn't, so we can understand what we're facing and hopefully, using.- Ultimately, I've come to know that AI is a tool and nothing else. All the problems generated with its poor and unethical uses are a human problem, not a tool one. The technology allows unethical uses, yes, but the humans are those making the choice.- I want to create positive and ethical examples of creative AI uses and share them with you all. There have been too many stories of unethical uses and the fear of change coming along with it only grew, and fairly so. The tool that is AI isn't going anywhere soon. It's unavoidable, it will grow : Let's try and create together a better USE for this tool by challenging people to use it in creative and meaningful ways, and guide the *humans* behind these poor ethical uses. This being said... Here are my findings so far.Down the rabbit hole : Make it workFirst of all, I installed stable diffusion and automatic1111 on my computer.I followed this tutorial. Try it, it's pretty easy., Then I began learning learning learning... and at first glance... AI is complex. In many ways, it reminded me of the steep learning curve when I began using blender.Models, checkpoints, denoising, LORA, Hypernetworks ( i love this one ), embeddings... All these terms I had to learn the hard way... but you'll find it all online. No worries.I ended up browsing https://civitai.com/ and https://huggingface.co/ for models... then began to try them all, with diverse luck. Of course, as you can guess, I had to witness the many horrors only AI is able to produce but I finally got some success.Txt2img : Text to something : cross your fingers !Txt2img is the first use of this AI thing. You type a prompt.. two... ten... a thousand prompts, seeing what works and what doesn't, and you're almost always suprised with the outcome.This is more or less what everyone knows.Here's what I got at first :,,,But I'm not interested in creating mockups of existing artists and copy their style. So I dig deeper.As you may know... AI don't understand the very concept of size, of tiny buildings crumbling under my steps and all that. So... with choco, we created what they call an "embedding", something to give the AI hints on what it should do.For this we used the picture from "Bombe". My pictures. My creation, turned into something else. I felt some meaning emerge from this creative motion... And I got this ,Of course there still were the many strange fingers and so on but... I could imagine myself editing this to create a beautiful picture. And it had more elements of what I needed !So I kept refining prompts, reading, tweaking parameters I never touched before, dozens of them, tried different models and hypernetworks and LORA and... all these complicated things I had no idea of what they'd do in the end. And I got this,Did you survive the assult of weird hands ? I did.And then I tried what I really wanted to try in the first place, the thing that would possibly give more control over what images would be created.Voila.I hope you enjoyed the first part.Please leave a comment below. Let's dive deeper into the many ways I've found to make it do what I expect it to do.Img2img : More control, sometimes.The principle behind img2img is simple. You feed the AI with a source picture, and let it reinterpret it its way.For instance :Source picture ,( Yes, you know this one pretty well )What I ended up with,Now that was more encouraging. I wanted to improve my own creations, renders, drawing and this was more and more looking like something I could use ! What I learned later is that img2img has a leash, and it's called denoising strength.,Pull on the leash, and the AI will stick to the original image as much as it can. Let go off it... and it will become wildly creative and let's be honest, very silly. I really liked that. Now AI was inspiring me into new pictures, and not just giving me the same perfect picture over and over. I inspired it, and it gave me something in return !Experience would later teach me that img2img is in NO WAY a magic potion which turns your render into a masterpiece but... More control !Next comes sexy. Next comes...Models : Try them all !Now that I finally had regained some control over the AI Slave, it was about time digging into models and find something more satisfying that your everyday anime-esque perfect and boring render.Models ... are the memory of the AI. They likely are the most controversial part of this technology because, by design, they're made from huge amounts of pictures gathered from... who knows where. Once inside the model, pictures no longer are the beloved creation of their author and become something else, a mash up of possible outcomes... But let's keep this part for the conclusion, shall we?Once trained, Models become some kind of style you can expect with any given textual prompt. Some are specialized. Some are generalists. Some are veeeeery specialized ( squishy boobs, I'm looking at you ), and they ALL have silly names.As I'm typing this article, Models can all be found on : https://civitai.com/ and https://huggingface.co/ So, in my quest to find a model that would suit my personal tastes, I began exploring the likes of AOM3_orangemixs, aresMix_v01, artErosAerosATribute_aerosNovae, BAD 0.5, chilloutmix_NiPrunedFp32Fix, dalcefoPainting_3rd, deliberate_v2, femaleMasturbation_v1 ( you read that well ), openjourney-v2, realismEngine_v10, uberRealisticBootyAnd_ubervagLORA, woopwoopPhoto_20Alpha2, etc...Silly names.For every model I had, I began using models with img2img with two different values on the denoising strength ( My AI slave's creative leash, remember ? ) 0.3 : a very short leash. Obey. 0.75 : a much looser one. Go run in the wilderness, AI.I won't put every models here but... here are the most interesting.Source picture,Claritydenoising : 0.3,denoising : 0.75,dalcefopaintingdenoising : 0.3,denoising : 0.75,deliberate denoising : 0.3,denoising : 0.75,dutchendarksidedenoising : 0.3 ,denoising : 0.75 Warning ! incoming anatomy violence !, uberealisticpornmergedenoising : 0.3,denoising : 0.75 ,babes denoising : 0.3,denoising : 0.75,3moon denoising : 0.3,See ? Models range from very realistic to plain cartoon. Models really shines when you let off their leash... doing beautiful and strange things. But, after doing this... I was confident that they could help me improve existing render with some careful editing work. And I knew which model suited me the best.Oh ! Since you beared with me till this point, here's a compilation of all the experiments done during the whole "testing models, finding style" phase.Again, there may be strange hands and impossible limbs. You've been warned.,,,,, And there you have it ! by now... you should feel like these pictures are all beginning to look the same, and you'd be right ! My little friend choco trained a dedicated set based on Bombe's pictures ( read it, it's still awesome https://bit.ly/story-bombe ), which was making my picture look more or less the same and, quite pleasingly, my face and anatomy constantly used.But I had more control now.More. Control.More ControlI'm not going to dive further into the intricacies of controlnet, openpose, cany, inpainting, LORA... but that's what I'm exploring now : Having more and precise control where I need it, when I need it, and let AI be creative when I allow it.Now, my little AI slave is much more tame and helps rather than hinders my creative process and together, we create size visions like these :,And finally, that's what happens when I set my newfound technical knowledge ( AI looooves its technical things ) and more "traditional" approaches. Editing. Collage.Before,After,That's 8 hours of work. And all things considered... about 2 weeks to get there *giggles*Now I know AI is just...But I'll keep all this for the 3rd and final part of this long article.AI, tamed.
