Description #UnitedBio flag or banner.

For our adventures and outings together as a unified Bio Batch of 2017. Can be used for anyone as well. This was used in from 2015-2017.

Symbolism:
The Green background represents the environment or eco-friendly. As students of the Biology Department of USC-TC (includes Biology, Marine Biology, and Environmental Science), it is our duty to preserve the environment and spread awareness regarding the state of the environment. I originally wanted the background to be blue as it represents water, where life originates; and as representing the color of the School of Arts and Sciences (formerly College of Arts and Sciences) and my former high school team: Blue Sharks.

The animals around the seal symbolizes the species representative of the three courses making up the Biology Department: the tarsier (Carlito syrichta) represents Biology, the tiger shark (Galeocerdo cuvieri) represents Marine Biology, and the butterfly (Rhopalocera sp.) represents Environmental Science. All these animals are found in the Philippines. The tarsier holding to the piece of DNA would symbolize that it is an endangered animal.

The both sides of the seal have DNA – as all living organisms have it as part of its genetic makeup. In the inner circle, the organisms are surrounded by a field of blue - which represents water, an essential component needed in life. The organisms present in it once again symbolize the representative specimens of the three courses: the three cells on top – prokaryotic cell and the eukaryotic plant cell and animal cell, – represent Biology as all life is composed of cells; the clown fish (Amphiprion ocellaris) for Marine Biology, and the Gumamela (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) for Environmental science. The island in the middle symbolizes that the Philippines composed of 7,107 islands. Present in it are two common starfish found in the country: the Chocolate Chip Sea Star (Protoreaster nodosus) on the left and the Blue Starfish (Linckia laevigata) on the right. Growing on the center of the island is a coconut tree (Cocos nucifera), a common type of palm tree found in all the tropical regions of the world - including the Philippines. Particularly, the palm tree was inspired from the flags of Guam and the British Indian Ocean Territory (B.I.O.T.).

This was our unofficial undergraduate batch flag from 2015-2017.
