It is not about "pleasing". Look at their eyes; the facial expressions; the abstractive directions.... eyes closed might work more effectively.

I know this is over a year old but.. I can't say I agree. Nick's eyes being closed and Ellis's eyes being open is perfect. Especially since I'm sure he'd want to see every expression Nick might have.
