aw :3 I have a 13 year old Setter, her hearing is just now starting to go bad. I love it when they don't show their age. She still acts like a puppy, too xD
Very cute dog :3 You're lucky to have her.

Well, she's always been a "selective listener" but, one thing she's always been good about is coming when you call her, and she's gotten bad about that now. When I call the other dogs inside, she'll still be out in the yard doing her thing. That's what I first noticed. Now she comes in more so when she sees us going in, as opposed to when I call her to come in. Last week, also, I called her from the door of the house, and she ran to the gate thinking I was in the front yard. She still hears in the house fine, but if she's at a decent distance she doesn't seem to anymore. She's always been my best dog about coming when she's called, so it's not like her to ignore me for that.
Defiant? Not really. It's weird. I could never get her to shake her whole life, but I just taught her it in the last year xD I have no idea why she just now wanted to learn it (old dogs can learn new tricks?). She's also learned how to do agility jumps, she gets super excited about those. I have them pretty much on the ground just for a fun activity, and she absolutely loves it when you clap for her. It's adorable xD She's been a better learner than she ever has been recently.
I definitely like it when they stay puppies into their older years. Makes it much nicer to deal with them getting older, because most often, I really don't notice she's old. When I sit and think about her being thirteen, it really amazes me. My other setter used to go into deep sleeps like that xD You'd have to nudge her to get her up, and even sometimes that wasn't enough.
Old dogs are awesome :3 I wanna rescue old dogs from shelters once I get my old place, since they are often the ones left behind. Like, 8 years+ I've seen some 12-13 year olds on adoption websites, and we had a 10 year old sit in our shelter for weeks. Poor guy.
I'll give my oldy a hug too <3

sorry it's taken so long for me to reply, i've been so busy with everything lately, haha.
unfortunately something unfortunate has happened.
my little girl has changed completely.
mum said it looked like the dog form of dementia and so she googled it and it so happens that all of the symptoms and signs she's shown, it looks like that is what she has.
she's just so.. out of it. 2 weeks ago she was running around being a silly little muffin, the way i was telling you about, but now.. she's just, i don't know, distant? sometimes she doesn't know who i am, today she's recognised me but she's just so much in another world. We've always tied her up in the garage for when it's bedtime, raining or if she just wants to be inside (she's not much of an indoor dog)and instead of getting all comfy straight away, she wanders in circles as far as her leash takes her and barks at the corner.
Its been really hard to deal with. Most of last night I was crying on my bed with my boyfriend trying to come to terms with it and the fact that time is running out

My other Setter ended up like that due to pain. She'd pace for hours and would scratch at the walls and...really anything near her. She ended up not eating though, which was when we decided she needed to rest.
We saw some glimpses of the actual her. She still loved going out to sit by the fire. <3

Aw I'm so sorry to hear that.
Zoe has gone back to normal, she's been that way for the past 4 days now. Mum thinks thats how dementia goes, but its so unbelievable. A week ago we thought she could have been on deaths door.
