Description Hello all! I just finished this up for my drawing class, we were supposed to find a picture online that was stippled with a background. I found this: [link] I don't normally post this kind of stuff, but if I don't post this kind of stuff, than I probably wouldn't be posting anything. What I did here is grid off the original raccoon picture and a blank sheet of paper and used an ultra fine Sharpie to make the dots.

Also, for those of you who may not know what stippling is, it's basically where you draw something only using black dots. It makes your hand hurt like crazy but when you're done it looks pretty cool if you've done a good job.

You are welocme, traditional pen really makes stippling hard, much of time and patient,  but you did a good job on it.

Amen! Traditional stippling = major hand cramps. Glad it was worth it.

I'm doing a piano using stippling right now, it is pretty rewarding when your finished, but the work bringing the results is so annoying O.o

I get a headache after about an hour of work because my eyes don't want to focus on the dots anymore , but after about 7 days equaling out to about 14 hours of work, its turning out good ^-^

Goldencloud In reply to cambria21 [2010-09-13 01:42:37 +0000 UTC]

Amen to that! Oh goodness I'll bet a piano would be pretty hard... All that black area... Haha that's what always happens to me. After working so long I start seeing dots everywhere and that's when I know it's time to take a break.

cambria21 In reply to Goldencloud [2010-09-13 10:41:33 +0000 UTC]

I think I lost next to all of my sanity doing it, I just glared at my art teacher when he told me I should go darker on the darkest parts of the piano.

Lol my poor sanity.

Goldencloud In reply to cambria21 [2010-09-26 02:36:12 +0000 UTC]

Ah man... Telling someone to make something darker on a stippling project is just plain cruel... It should be a criminal offense. It's almost as bad as doing a scratch art and hearing "it should be lighter".

Do you have your piano on dA?

We shall have a funeral for your sanity...

Where exactly?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MasterOfPointillism In reply to Goldencloud [2010-03-06 04:36:48 +0000 UTC]

All over. This is the problem that I found with using a fairly large point size, you can't really get a good tonal range unless the work is quite large. If there was something in the background, even just a gray tone, that might make the whites and very dark areas stand out more.
As it is, it is a fine piece of work, but has the potential to be more.

Goldencloud In reply to MasterOfPointillism [2010-03-07 16:54:33 +0000 UTC]

Yes. I was working with an ultra fine point Sharpie, my art instructor didn't have any actual stippling pens. I see what you're saying about the big white area. If I can get my hands on another Sharpie I'll have to see what I can do about that.

Thank you for the advice!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MasterOfPointillism In reply to Goldencloud [2010-03-07 17:22:32 +0000 UTC]

The big white area is perfectly fine, if that's what you want. In fact, if you were to make note cards out of this design, the printer would love for you to keep it that way and make his/her job easier.

But since you can not increase the size of the piece now, the only way to get more of a tonal range is to add more dots ....

Have you ever seen/read Twilight? I have one of Alice that I stippled but I don't know if I want to post it or not...

I'm down to 204... ugg

and, yes, sadly I have read all/seen the first movie. I don't like Twilight at all --- but I'd love to see how you drew her She was the character I liked the most when I read/watched.

I loved Alice Wonderful job! and I don't like the books, because I thought they weren't written well - and I thought the story in general was stupid. (sorry -- I know you like it )

Yeah. I think that it's worth being mentioned because of it's popularity, but I don't see how it will ever be well known because of it's amazing plotlines.

I only read the first book, and only because someone that I work with agreed to read "Let The Right One In" if I did. I love reading, but getting through that book was very trying. It was like reading the diary of a 16 year old girl with no life.

Jez, you know, it seems like everytime you knock out 10 deviantions --- 20 more get submitted. It never ends!! hahaha

And you know, I'm a huge pre-twilight Muse fan, and I was looking on their twitter page the other day. Stepheny Meyer got to meet the band, and they had a picture up titled "twighlight zone" [link]
I got a big kick out of that. It appears Muse doesn't even care enough about the books/movies to even spell them right!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Goldencloud In reply to MissOrange94 [2010-01-11 01:38:13 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow! That's insane. I though the word twilight was a fairly easy word to spell. Oh well. That is true. Right when I start to get within 26 lightyears of having no messages or deviations, something happens and I shoot right back up to the 600 range.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MissOrange94 In reply to Goldencloud [2010-01-16 02:48:51 +0000 UTC]

Haha yeah they bash (in a subtle way) twilight all the time. I find it quite amusing

And dude. I have 2,297 devs. I'm about to go nuts! I joined and Avatar Na'vi art group, and I have art running through the woodworks!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Goldencloud In reply to MissOrange94 [2010-01-17 20:45:38 +0000 UTC]

hehe... Muse... Amusing... It's aMUSEing! Shush I know I'm a dork.

Holy Sea Bond! When you have that many deviations and messages it makes it hard to enjoy deviantart anymore. That's a big reason why I'm never on anymore.

Pun intended and you caught it, have a cookie

Haha I'm down to 283. And it feels so much better. I pretty much just went through and deleted everything that I didn't find interesting from that digital-artists group I joined.

Tip: never join a very large group and have them in deviantwatch as well. It's overwhelming.

I'm trying my best to look at all of my friends' art. Hopefully I haven't skipped something, or deleted it! I've unwatched the group, but I'm still in it. It makes life so much easier haha

AND DON'T DO THAT D: YOU MUST VISIT MORE OFTEN!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Goldencloud In reply to MissOrange94 [2010-01-17 23:55:32 +0000 UTC]

YAY I GETZ A COOKIE. *nibbles*

That's pretty much what I've been doing. I used to go through and comment on everything, but I went through and deleted the things that didn't really catch my eye. I'm down to about 50 now, so I've resumed my comment-on-almost-everything policy.

I know what you mean about deviantwatching large groups. Every day I have to go in and delete everything from avatar-fan. They just became a group, so all the old art is being reuploaded into the group. I should probably stop watching too, at least until the art slams stop.

I AM TRYING TO GET MORE INTO IT!!! Although I can't really get back 100% until I start answering less messages and making more arts.
