Is that in the Breyer Salinero mold? I love this! This definitely changes my entire view on the mold, as I have never liked it. Good luck in selling him, I sure wish I could!

Do you use premade models for this? If so, where do you get them?

Thanks a lot! It really changes the whole feel of the original sculpture, I think.

Hmm, I guess Salinero was supposed to have been a uni... It certianly fits. I wonder if they'll release a SR Salinero Unicorn now?

Well, I can't really think of anything else to do when the TV's going, and after my brain has been fried from work all day. It helps relax.
Thanks!

I loved this guy the minute I saw him on the sales page. He has so much presence, and you've done an excellent job with your resculpting.

I'm hoping, but I'm not expecting--no sense getting my hopes up, LOL! If he goes for more, I am so totally putting a down payment on a Prince of Thieves!!! (That gorgeous palmino arabian, even though pureblood arabs don't come in Palomino!)

Well, if you're looking for a forgiving medium, I would look at the Sculpey clays. They have several different varieties, depending on what kind of detail you want to sculpt. Super sculpey is what you would use for the super fine details. Regular sculpey works for the bulkier areas. It won't ever dry out on you, and it cures in your home oven. They even make little plastic versions of the clay tools I use.
The stuff I use on my horses is actually the clay that most autobody shops use to repair engines. Horrid sticky stuff, but it cures in the air so it's like stone.

I know a lot of artists make wire armatures (skeletons). Me, if I'm sculpting a big area, I'll wad up aluminum foil and use it as a base, so it's not quite so weighty. It's the weight that will make some of the areas sag, especially if there's not a lot holding it up. Or, you could use something to prop up the area you think will sag when you put it in the oven. Something like wadded up aluminum foil, LOL!
Yes, Super Sculpey is the best. It's a kind of a peachy color. It's more expensive than regular Sculpey, but I feel it's worth it in the long run.

Well, I use a Spray Gesso (since I'm an idiot when it comes to applying it with a paintbrush) as a base coat for light colors, and for dark colors, the floral spray paints you find at Michaels' are wonderful. They smell horrid, though.

Hehe, I think it's the windblown tail and mane that are driving people nuts! He had to have something other than the hanging down mane and tail.
