I miss Fred (T_T)

I can see why she would but I'm kinda glad she didn't...though he was an ass in goblet of fire! *throws a radish at ron's head* It's funny how she regrets putting him with Hermione tho....I wonder who they would have ended up with instead

Very cute picture of Ron! I'm glad that she didn't have him die, but I still haven't forgiven her for killing off Fred.

Sorry to all you Ron-lovers out there, but Ron annoyed me SO much! I mean, I can't imagine Harry Potter without Ron, but if he died...Not sure I would bawl my eyes out like some people.

Poor Ronniekins! I think it would have been a very hard deal for her, too, if she had killed him off, which probably played into her deciding not to do it. However, I think she canned the idea rather early on in the series.

Mairelyn In reply to GoldenPhoenix75 [2012-10-26 18:29:58 +0000 UTC]

well of course i'm glad she didn't do it.

but the fact she not only considered it, And even mentioned it, it feeds the bad parts of fandom in their hate, if you know what and Who i mean.

khgirl08 In reply to Mairelyn [2012-10-26 17:54:45 +0000 UTC]

I kind of like that she told us, actually; it gave us some nice insight into her as a writer.

Mairelyn In reply to khgirl08 [2012-10-26 18:28:48 +0000 UTC]

you'll have to explain what you mean by "nice insight" since the definition seems completely different between you and me.

khgirl08 In reply to Mairelyn [2012-10-27 01:11:32 +0000 UTC]

Alright. Buckle down, because this is gonna be a long one.

A lot of people in the writing community (other authors and even a few reviewers and fans within the community) were sore over the fact that she didn't kill off one of the trio. For whatever reason, there's this stigma that some people have that for an author to truly be good, they have to be willing to kill off major characters.

Let's look at the deaths in Deathly Hallows: the mainest-main character was probably Snape, who was indeed pretty important. Voldie is obviously necessary to the story. Then we go down to...would you consider Fred or Lupin more important? Well, those two anyhow (neither of them is really that major of a character, to be honest), followed by Tonks and Dobby and Mad-Eye and Hedwig and Colin Creevey. Of course, there are also the Death Eaters, but eh.

So in the final book, JKR really only killed off two characters whose existences had a major impact on the storyline. If Lupin had died in Book Three, or George had never had a twin, the main story wouldn't have been so different. It would require some tweaking around the Marauder's story, but not a whole lot. The others barely impacted the grand scheme even a little bit.

But Ron, on the other hand, would have been a huge HUGE death to Harry, through whose eyes we watch the story. If he had died during that final battle, he probably would have been there with Harry. We would have seen him die; Harry would have been much more emotionally incapacitated than he was over Fred or Lupin, and like he did with Sirius, he would have probably flung himself headlong into battle and done something stupid, which could potentially have changed the entire ending.

The fact that JKR even considered killing him off makes my view of her as an author change, not dramatically but still. She would have been changing the way the entire story ended, the way everything from his death on played out. She knew that, had to have known it, and that's a big part of the reason why she didn't do it. It wasn't just that she was afraid of killing him off, though I bet she was attached enough that it would have been difficult; JKR just didn't want to change the ending of her saga so dramatically, and she knew doing something like that would inherently make a dramatic change.

I think the whole stigma about the death of main characters being the earmark of a great writer is a pack of bologna. However, I love knowing just how intently she thought about each and every action she took would impact the story. It was a nice insight. Not nice as in friendly or as in I wanted Ron to die, but a nice insight in the good specimen sort of way.

The only site was a Tumbrl called Harry Potter facts :

[link] - Fact number 209. They claim they have the author source for all the facts.

half of those are made-up

like the one saying the snake that harry freed in the zoo is nagini? that's not true because they're two different snakes

same with the hermione could love fred- it's fake

On this one they actually said it's false that the snake of the zoo is Nagini, but I don't really know about Fred and Hermione because I can't find it in any other source.
