Description Hello, everyone. Now, normally, I don’t do this kind of thing, but after seeing Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, I decided that I’m going to make my own rewrite for Dragon Ball Super itself. There’s a lot of things I didn’t like about, some I felt could be better, like the controversial SSGSS (Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan), and some that I did like. I took a look at a manga version of a few select arcs to see where it can improve upon the rewrite, if possible, but all in all, I may not have all the information as of yet, so please bear with me on this. Anyway, the first arc to be redone is, of course, Battle of Gods.

1. Battle of Gods - There’s only a few quick fixes of it for me, especially since it’s more heavily based on the movie than the arc itself. That way, it can still show off Beerus’ vicious demeanor as a Destroyer God, and while there may be some moments where he’s… well, passive (AKA destroying worlds on a whim), he actually does what he does and spares Earth simultaneously. And like in the movie, Beerus would tell Goku that Whis is also his teacher, and that there are 12 universes in total.

That, to me, was one of, if not the best moments in Dragon Ball history. It showed Beerus’ full brunt of his title as Destroyer. Though, a few select scenes where he has the jump on Goku in Super will still be intact, like when he impales Goku with his own hand and tells him he’s not the rival that he’s looking for, which I’ll explain why later on.

Anyway, after a time since then, it’ll carry on like normal, but in this next arc (which is especially long overdue for a rewrite, things will definitely be a heavy hitter. And it won’t be just because of Frieza. This time, he’s not alone…

2. The Frieza Family Saga - Now, I’ll bet your tiny brains are thinking, “let me guess, Cooler is a part of this?” And you’d be right. But that’s not really anything to sneeze or yawn at. After Frieza and Cold kicked the bucket, someone had to take the reigns, after all. Following his brother and his father’s death, Cooler took charge and decided to construct the Cooler Force. Whatever was left of Frieza’s men was transferred over to him, kinda like a will. And as you can imagine, it wasn’t for the better.

Having grown up in a ruthless penchant for conquering planets, Cooler earned the title of Cooler the Conqueror. And despite all the resistance he had to deal with, Cooler wiped them out with ease. Even so, he needed a way to whip his soldiers into shape, as many of them had become quite drags, namely Sorbet and Tagoma. No matter his efforts, Cooler just couldn’t get them to take their roles as soldier seriously. That’s when Cooler, though he disliked the idea initially, decided to resurrect Frieza at Sorbet’s suggestion, just so Cooler could whip Frieza into shape himself, and when the time comes, kill him himself for embarrassing their family name and legacy.

Things panel out from there like they did in the movie, but after the resurrection, Frieza would be brought up to date on what has happened since his defeat at the hands of Trunks on Earth. Of course, Frieza swears vengeance on the Saiyan Monkeys and made an example of Tagoma (leaving him alive just to suffer the wounds), and of course, he proposes to train himself to become stronger than Goku. BUT! This is where things take a hitch.

Instead of Frieza training for four months against a lowly foot soldier (Tagoma), he will train himself against Cooler. And obviously, Cooler was far stronger than him, having built up his own strength on fighting those who resisted him, which had a great number since Frieza’s death. And then, during Frieza’s training against him, Frieza had unlocked his Golden Form. Cooler would naturally be shocked and aghast at this, having never seen a thing like it before. Now you’d think Frieza would be satisfied with just obtaining the level of power, right? WRONG!

That was one of Frieza’s weaknesses that didn’t sit well with me at all. If he’d have thought half of everything through, he wouldn’t have been humiliated (again!) to begin with. So, Frieza will instead hone his Golden form to its full potential while Cooler tried to surpass Frieza. It was a bitter pill for Cooler, to say the least, but his one consolation from Frieza’s Golden form was his own evolution, which is of course his Fourth Transformation.

Then, they focused on training his soldiers, so that they can be as cold-hearted and fearsome as Frieza himself, much like with Tagoma. Seeing this new and improved Tagoma, who had gotten stronger himself after training with Cooler and Frieza, you can imagine that they welcomed their grueling training with almost wide-open arms. Then, came the day of vengeance.

Before they even made it to Earth, Frieza suggested they displayed the full night of the new and improved Frieza Force on New Namek. His memory of the Dragon Balls being taken away from him just when he could’ve attained immortality was a dead-ringer. So, you can imagine the sheer terror and despair that followed. The picture was pretty bloody and gory, but long story short… every. Single. Namekian. Died. And the Dragon Balls were gone with them.

On the lookout, Dende felt this heavy disturbance and grew both quite anxious, afraid, and saddened, all the emotions of which he felt when Frieza invaded his home. And it was only a matter of time before he sent that news to Gohan, Piccolo, Krillin, and the other Z-Fighters. This time, it was personal. They knew Frieza would do anything to get back at Goku for his humiliation on Namek, which they supposed was why he destroyed their planet in the first place. They could’ve trained to prepare for them, but with after having just received the news, there simply wasn’t enough time, not even to use the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.

By that time, the Frieza Force’s technology has vastly improved, so they’d arrive there in a matter of minutes. And they have. Left with no other option, the Z-Fighters decided to encounter them head-on, apart from Jaco, who stayed with Dende to look after him (though it’s mostly to save his own hide).

From there, aside from a few passing glances at Cooler (who had his identity concealed at the time), it goes down the same way it did in the original “Resurrection F” arc, but this time around, the Z-Fighters were getting more than they bargained for. It wasn’t as simple as knocking them out anymore. They had to give it everything they have, or they were done for. And those foot soldiers, which posed a bigger threat than before, exhausted Tien, Krillin, and Master Roshi before taking them down, leaving Gohan and Piccolo standing against Cooler’s own enforcers, Salza, Dore, and Neiz.

The two of them were forced to deal with the trio of danger (no pun intended) by themselves with the rest of the Frieza Force cutting off their only chance at escape! And if need be, they will engage with their own blasters, which is a far cry from a fair fight at all, but that’s just how Frieza wanted it. It all seemed bleak when Gohan decided he had enough and turned into a Super Saiyan. The soldiers were almost blown away by the force of this transformation. Almost. But they maintained position as Gohan put up a better fight against them. However, Cooler felt an odd presence at the lookout. And while Gohan had to deal with his enforcers, Cooler decided to check it out.

A big part of Cooler’s earlier conquests contributed to learning his opponent’s techniques and using them against them. So, it was no doubt a big surprise that Cooler, of all people, learned Instant Transmission. And unfortunately for Dende and Jaco, Cooler doesn’t plan on letting any Namekian live.

Meanwhile, on Beerus’ planet, Goku and Vegeta were still training with Whis, but it was to adapt their bodies to Divine Energy, like surviving one of Beerus’ base blast attacks to start with. And like in the movie, Whis tells them of their flaws and where to improve on them, especially that one hint of a certain form that got everybody (including myself) hyped to no end. And it would be just after that when Whis received a signal from Bulla, telling them about a new threat to Earth, the Frieza Force.

The Saiyans would not only be shocked that Frieza came back, but to hear that their foot soldiers were much more ruthless than in the old days. Vegeta scowled at this, recalling only a mention during his days in the Frieza Force of Cooler the Conqueror. At the time, Vegeta assumed he was a myth, finding it hard to believe Frieza actually had a brother. This made Goku very determined to get back. He had to use Instant Transmission, but there was only one problem: there wasn’t any energy strong enough to give him the signal. So, for the time being, they were forced to sit on the sidelines and wait anxiously for someone to have a strong enough energy to transport them, friend or foe…

Meanwhile, Gohan and Piccolo had barely beaten Cooler’s enforcers by the skin of their teeth. Gohan decided to spare them, angering Frieza before he shot at him right at the shoulder, taking out one of his own men, in the process, but Frieza being Frieza, he didn’t really care at all.

Now, much like in the anime, he tortured Gohan as his men looked on until Piccolo sacrificed himself. HOWEVER, instead of just anguishing in his lack of training, which still does happen as the realization sets in, that’s when Cooler teleports back with Instant Transmission, and with the near-dead Dende in his hand. Gohan’s eyes widened in terror as he received Namek flashbacks where Dende was in danger and slain. And unfortunately for Gohan, that history repeated itself. Cooler tossed Dende to the ground in front of Gohan before shooting him dead mid-air right in front of his eyes!

Gohan was beginning to lose it, not just from the fact that Cooler killed Dende, but from the fact that he couldn’t do anything. And that swell in anger allowed him to achieve a boost in power to Super Saiyan 3. Goku and Vegeta, who were stuck watching from the sidelines, were utterly shocked to see Gohan’s transformation. Goku tried to use Instant Transmission through him, but because of his lack in initial training prior to that, Goku still couldn’t use Instant Transmission.

Having had enough, Gohan became as brutal a monster to the new and improved foot soldiers as he was to the Cell Jr.’s of you need a picture of his power. In his rage, every single one of them were incapacitated. Of course, Frieza was flabbergasted at this new level of Super Saiyan. Yet, at the same time, he was eager to test it out on him since he finally managed to overwhelm his men. But before he could begin to fight Gohan, Cooler interfered, telling Frieza that he’s not about to let him have all the fun.

It didn’t make any difference to Gohan, as long as he avenged Piccolo and Dende. With that, Cooler vs. Gohan began, and the both of them were evenly matched, frustrating them both. However, that stalemate didn’t last long at all. In no time, Cooler was building up in strength while Gohan was losing it. Super Saiyan 3 uses a lot of energy to begin with, and due to his lack of training, it wasn’t helping him at all. But there was one good thing that came from Cooler’s rise in power. Goku finally got a lock on Cooler and urged Vegeta to hold on to him.

Back on Earth, Cooler was staring down the exhausted Gohan, who’s now dropped out of Super Saiyan 3.

“So, Saiyan. You’ve finally managed to attain a new level of power. And for what?”

Gohan stared up at the ruthless Conqueror as he answered as boldly as he could.

“You’re right. I’ve been away from training for too long. Even with Super Saiyan 3, I’m not strong enough to stop you. If I had kept on my training like my dad, we wouldn’t be in this trouble. And Piccolo and Dende wouldn’t be dead…”

Cooler smirked at the boy’s realization before Krillin, who was rescued during Gohan’s berserk attacks against the Frieza Force, piped up, telling him that he walked away from fighting so he could be with his family, and that there was no shame in that. However, Cooler had every right to disagree.

“Take it from me, Saiyan. Family is nothing but a bother.”

Gohan snapped from Cooler’s words.

“AND WHAT DOES THAT MEAN TO YOU?!”

Cooler never lost his glance. He explained to Gohan that “family” was only a concept of weakness, in which Gohan’s lack of training proved his point. And he always viewed Frieza as more a pest than a brother. He would’ve killed him himself sooner or later. Then, Cooler would reveal to Gohan that he had another transformation waiting just in line. But instead of wasting it on him, he decided to just end Gohan with a blast. But right when Cooler would have killed Gohan… THWACK!

Goku arrived just in the nick of time with Vegeta in tow and deflected his blast away from his son. Cooler was then met with Goku’s fierce gaze. Frieza welcomed this arrival as it meant his revenge was finally at hand.

From there, Goku asked Frieza how he came back to life while Vegeta had a hunch as to what happened, though he supposed it was mostly in the part of Cooler himself, which was partly true. Cooler admitted that he did have a hand in it, but it was to make up for the lapse in the power the Frieza Force once had. For Frieza, of course, it was more personal than anything, being trapped in a delicate fairy-tale land where he was constantly serenaded by teddy bears.

Frieza states that he had to come back to Earth because he could never sleep in the cosmos knowing that he shared it with Goku. And for the matter of the clan’s legacy, Cooler couldn’t let it stand any more than Frieza, so they made an alliance to destroy the Saiyans once and for all. Now, this is where the true battle begins.

For this sequence, Vegeta will fight Frieza while Goku fought Cooler. If anyone was meant to kill Frieza, it would definitely be Vegeta. Frieza was one of the main heavy parts of his life as a Saiyan, and while he didn’t much care about his people or his planet in general, Vegeta couldn’t move on from how Frieza had used him. He had his own revenge to take. The way they robbed Vegeta of that was just unfair.

Anyway, Vegeta was on equal footing with Frieza in his final form and Goku was the same with Cooler. But since he didn’t have a penchant for holding back, Vegeta would goad Frieza to unleash his true power. Though it infuriated him briefly, Frieza decided to honor Vegeta’s request and transform into Golden Frieza. At the same time, Cooler had gauged Goku’s strength and found him worthy of his newest 4th Transformation. Both Goku and Vegeta were utterly shocked at their new forms, though they were surprised that Cooler was not at the same level as Frieza. Despite it, Goku could tell from his energy that Cooler was close to surpassing Frieza. Then, he guessed that Cooler was just using him as an ulterior motive to get stronger himself. Cooler would congratulate Goku for figuring it out, but it wouldn’t do him any good knowing he was fated to die.

Meanwhile, Vegeta, left with no choice, and surprising all, turned into a Super Saiyan God. During his training with Whis, Vegeta fought against Goku in his Super Saiyan God form before, and his body learned from the experience, just like Goku’s body learned during his fight with Beerus. Frieza was left flabbergasted at the sight, but he gave him a smirk and mocked his title as Prince of the Saiyans. Vegeta didn’t waste any time to begin his fight with Frieza, but since he had more time to regulate his Golden Form, Frieza had no trouble holding his own. Meanwhile, Goku was forced to go Super Saiyan God himself against Cooler. And for a while, he appeared to have the advantage. However, Cooler’s new transformation proved to have its own advantages in strength and defense. And Cooler was also using something else to create his openings.

During the fight, Cooler taunted Goku, telling him about how they slaughtered every last living Namekian before they came to Earth. As expected, it drove Goku into a fit of rage, which Cooler took advantage of. His anger put on a big hamper to his focus, and Cooler acted on every single time he saw the opportunity.

Cooler and Frieza began to thrash around Vegeta and Goku. Vegeta’s desire to think of a plan of attack in midst of battle was taken advantage of by Frieza as his passionate hatred acted as instinct for him, which he was powerless against. At the same time, Goku’s constant drop of his guard was repeatedly exploited by Cooler, even as he tried to escape him.

The both of them were left powerless as Cooler and Frieza each dealt a heavy blow to the Saiyans. Cooler and Frieza were nearly close to finishing off the Saiyans, only for Beerus to arrive and knock the both of them back. Seeing the Destroyer in front of their eyes, they were quickly overwhelmed with fear.

Like in the anime, Beerus allowed Frieza and Cooler to do what they wanted with the Saiyans, but with one key difference. If they destroyed Earth, and all the treats Earth had to offer along with it, they would have to answer to him. It was against their plan, but their end goal was vengeance against Goku. So long as the dragon balls were destroyed, they didn’t need to worry about soaring the planet. And even in the long run, Frieza had no doubts that Gohan would seek revenge and would provide quite the training for the both of them. However, Cooler had at least one thing in common with Frieza: betrayal.

Cooler began to turn on Frieza, having had enough of his brother living this long. The dialogue for this will be similar to that of Xenoverse 2, if you’ve played it before. It’s pretty spot-on. Anyway, while Cooler and Frieza fought each other, Goku and Vegeta badly recovered from the beating the Wicked Brothers gave them. Whis took the opportunity to remind the both of them of their weaknesses and what they needed to work on. Goku and Vegeta had no choice but to agree, and decided to fight as Whis told them to.

With that, Goku and Vegeta both regained their strength and accessed their Super Saiyan God forms once again. But this time, Goku made sure not to drop his guard. He wasn’t going to let Cooler take advantage of him ever again. And Vegeta learned to take the weight off his shoulders and deal more devastating blows to Frieza than ever before. Frieza was incredibly pissed.

“Of all the beings in the universe, the one who got the better of me this time was… Vegeta?! This can’t be real…! THIS IS NOT THE WAY THIS ENDS!”

Vegeta wasted no time in finishing off the emperor, blasting him point blank range and disintegrating him.

“And don’t dream of resurrecting again.”

And so, Vegeta finally destroyed the Evil Emperor of the Universe and got the win he deserved. But the battle wasn’t over yet.

Frustrated to no end, Cooler gathered his energy quickly into a Supernova and tried to finish off Goku with it. Goku caught the Supernova, but even with his Super Saiyan God form, he couldn’t push it back. And so, instead of resisting the energy, he began to absorb it, surprising Cooler and Vegeta, as well as the survivors from Frieza and Cooler’s massacre. The Supernova suspended itself in the air for a while until it went away with a puff of cosmic stardust, showing a surprising new evolution to Goku’s form: Transcended Super Saiyan God. It's one of the earlier concepts of Super Saiyan God's evoultion that came out before Resurrection F, and I think that would've been more fitting instead of a plain Blue Super Saiyan. I couldn't find the name of the artist who made it, though...

Anyway, earlier in Whis’ training, Goku and Vegeta were forced to fight while holding their energy within their bodies. But this time, Goku went above and beyond, taking in the energy of someone else’s energy and trapping it in his own body, a callback to what Goku did against Beerus' attack to protect earth in Battle of Gods. As a result, Goku reached a new level that wasted no time in dispensing with Cooler, who used another Supernova to finish him off in desperation. To counter, Goku used the Ultimate Kamehameha to send him and his Supernova straight past the dark clouds and right into the sun, making it glow brighter than ever as Cooler was seemingly incinerated.

After the battle, there was no cause for celebration. For all of what they gained, they’ve lost twice as much. Piccolo was dead, Dende was killed, and all the Namekians were destroyed prior to the battle. The Saiyans may have won the battle, but they lost the war. No one was going to come back. This especially hurt Gohan beyond recognition.

The whole tragedy not only made him realize he should get back to training, but that he should always train, unless he wanted the same thing to happen to Videl or Pan, or all of Earth. It’s what Piccolo would’ve wanted him to do. And so, Gohan humbly asks Whis to let him train with Goku and Vegeta to become stronger, feeling that he needs to. Whis accepted Gohan’s request, much to Chi-Chi’s dismay, but Gohan quickly snapped at her, telling her he had enough of being her scholar boy. Chi-Chi was caught off-guard, but she understood how much Piccolo meant to Gohan. And so, she reluctantly honored his wish.

In a few days’ time, Gohan let Videl know that he was going to be training with Whis from now on. He told Videl everything that happened, and she felt sorry for what he had to go through for her sake. In the end, Videl accepted Gohan’s decision to leave with Whis, as long as he promised to write to her every week, which he accepted.

Then, one day, while Gohan, Goku, and Vegeta trained with Whis, they were met with a surprising set of visitors. And they were from another universe…

This is where I’ll leave it for now. I’ll continue my rewrite another time to cover what I believe would happen with Gohan in the mix. Even I’m excited to see where this version goes from there. Hope you all have a fun time.
