Alita Battle Angel is a mixed bag.

It has a lot going for it, but there are also some issues that need to be listed. First, I'm going to address my biggest pet peeve, which is what I call Walking Dead Syndrome. This is when there are too many bonus characters involved that the audience does not really care about. They are forgettable and take up about 20% of screentime. I can't even remember some of their names.

Secondly, the movie suffers from a LOT of Deus ex Machina, and our protagonists pull off a lot of shit that seems impossible, even with superhuman abilities.

The soundtrack was less than memorable in comparison to most other movies as it's often drowned out by generic action noises. Ghost in the Shell, (the 2d animated one) clearly put some more effort into making the music memorable, and sometimes eerie.

On to some things that I did enjoy:
The action was very good, and at sometimes very brutal for a PG-13 movie. You can always tell what is going on during a fight and most of the stunts are semi-realistic.

Alita doesn't feel like a Mary Sue. She fails "sometimes" and her insane abilities are because she's a freaking cyborg, not just because she's the protagonist. (COUGH COUGH STAR WARS)

The CGI was very impressive and immersive. You can tell that they put a lot of effort into every little detail, and at least for me, nothing fell into the uncanny valley.
And I did find some aspects of the story interesting, but sadly the end result is a bit of a predictable mess.

Would I recommend this movie? No, unless you have some time to waste. Watch Ghost in The Shell: Innocence instead or wait for this movie to come out on Redbox.

I give it a 6/10, so better than Transformers: The Last Knight.
