Personality:
observant, curious, and strong-willed; Evergreen is a thoughtful dragon who only wants to make the world a better place through kindness, regardless of the continent’s seemingly constant state of war and famine.
Positive notes:
Due to her compassion for others, she has developed long lasting friendships across Pyrrhia with many dragons from different tribes. Her kindness and mercy has inspired some to change their ways and commit to doing better. These connections eventually led to her creating a new town called Fellowship, another multi-tribe city.
Negative notes:
Her determination to find the best in others has often led to her trusting the wrong dragons and putting herself in danger. She grew up in a sheltered area, and in some ways that skewed her thought process since it’s hard for her to accept that some folk are just bad and will never change.
Family History:
It all started with Queen Polar, Evergreen’s grandmother, who was famous for having an affair with a NightWing merchant on her numerous travels to the Night Kingdom. This resulted in her first dragonet being a hybrid named Crystal, but luckily for her, she looked more like an IceWing (just with a few strange features to give away her heritage). Polar loved her odd baby regardless, and raised her as a 1st circle noble, but made sure she knew that hybrids could never rule the throne and that the cute prince she had a crush on was off limits (reserved for future heirs). Still outraged by her adultery, King Blizzard demanded that the little dragonet be killed to hide her shame, but Polar simply dismissed this and later divorced him to marry what she considered to be a more regal prince.
Some speculate that she was just tired of him complaining about her disloyalty.
With this new marriage came new, pureblood IceWing hatchlings, one of which was Princess Permafrost.
As expected, Permafrost was considered the perfect princess who would one day rule the entire kingdom. Resentment grew between Crystal and her younger half-sister, even though the latter tried endlessly to befriend her hybrid kin. This strained relationship worsened when Queen Polar announced that Prince Skua was betrothed to Permafrost, which broke Crystal’s heart. The Queen knew of her firstborn daughter’s obsession with the young prince, but wanted to make sure such a wonderful dragon would not “go to waste” by marrying a half-NightWing.
Their wedding ceremony was grand, but Crystal sat seething in the background and decided that maybe, somehow revealing her secret would change everything. Her nameless NightWing father was actually a descendant of Whiteout and Thoughtful, so her family carried the long-dormant animus gene.
After many moons of studying, she unveiled her hidden power in the form of a gift to her entire tribe: the Gift Of Protection. She enchanted the many nurseries to be indestructible and that all IceWing dragnets would be healed of whatever ailments once they enter structure. A nearly forgotten tradition now resurfaced.
Astonished, everyone now wanted to know why such a powerful dragon was kept on the back burner for so long. Elders urged Queen Polar to marry her off to breed back the animus gene into the royal bloodline. Unfortunately, Crystal still didn’t get to be with Prince Skua. She had hoped this display of magic would convince her mother to force a divorce between her beloved and her half-sister.
About a year later, Permafrost challenges Queen Polar for the throne and won. She new leadership of the kingdom was anticipated since she had promised to improve many aspects of their lives with better laws and more compassionate judging when it came to ranking. She promised a more unified kingdom.
Crystal’s resentment turned to hatred and bitterness as time passed. She wanted to marry Skua, and she wanted to be queen. She was tired of being judged for her hybrid heritage, something that was completely out of her control. And now, the only reason anyone ever paid attention to her was when they needed something to be enchanted or fixed. To her, nobody really cared about her unless they desired something.
Frustrated and driven by envy, she concocted a spell to place on Permafrost — one that would slowly deteriorate her health and kill her. No one would suspect it to be an enchantementor the work of foul play, so it was the perfect plan. And as predicted, the queen showed faint signs of illness that gradually intensified over the course of 3 years. Still, Queen Permafrost never let her condition come in the way of her royal duties and worked until she could no longer.
Out of desperation and worry, she asked Crystal to temporarily step up as a replacement while healers would attempt to cure her sickness. She agreed and began ruling the Ice Kingdom while Permafrost was taken to a private doctor.
The only thing the doctor was able to find that was unusual was that she was pregnant.
During Crystal’s rule, she enforced many new laws and orders that contrasted everything Permafrost set in place. Her regulations were somewhat cruel and unnecessary, and the most unsettling part was that everyone who treated her poorly in the past and anyone who tried to speak out mysteriously disappeared. These red flags planted a seed of suspicion in Skua’s mind, and he watched her carefully.
A few more weeks passed and the queen laid a single egg. Her and Skua were joyous, but that happiness faded quick when Permafrost quietly died in her sleep. With her death came the confirmation that Crystal would be the new queen, since an egg could not lead the IceWings and no other heirs were available. Her leadership was met with a lot of criticism; she was a hybrid and so far she had only made everyone’s lives much more difficult.
Fearful, Skua made those who knew about the egg promise that they’d never reveal its existence to anyone, especially Queen Crystal. He was worried that she might destroy the egg to keep her place on the throne, and he wasn’t willing to let her kill his unborn dragonet. Those who knew swore their secrecy and spread the rumor that Permafrost’s egg was still inside her when she passed, so the baby perished along with her.
Skua left in the middle of the night and flew nonstop with his egg, hoping to find a safe place to hide it. He had no idea what to do until he met a group of nomadic SeaWings on the coastlines of the Rainforest Kingdom. Being peaceful wanderers, he begged them to protect his egg until he could make sure she would be safe back home. Sensing his anxiety and determination, they adopted the egg and placed it in a small nursery within their temporary village.
The SeaWings never saw Skua again and assumed that whatever he was running from had finally caught him.
So they raised the IceWing dragonet as one of their own, teaching her as much as they could and keeping her biological family and history a well-kept secret, since they knew that her true identity could bring danger.
