I know that this is YEARS overdo, but the manga actually confirms that Ame DOES come back to visit Hana on occasions.
Yuki also writes letters to Hana frequently from school and she comes home to visit on holidays.
So, the family still gets together here and there.

I just watched the movie last night, kind of tore me up, but in a good way. It was beautiful and solidified my confidence in Hosoda to at least kind of take the place of the now retiring Miyazaki. This drawing is amazing by the way.
